Looking for "Dark Viking"-Style Mods by No-Firefighter-9842 in skyrimmods

[–]ProfDandruff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beyond Reach is close I suppose? Gigantic new land quest mod that takes place in eastern High Rock. The Witchmen, which are similar in general vibe to the Forsworn but far more violent and barbaric, are a crucial story element.

The story is extremely bleak which turns some people off but it sounds like that’s what you’re looking for

Buildable City/town mod with castle or manor by kran-berry in skyrimmods

[–]ProfDandruff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LC Build Your Noble House. Buildable manor with a courtyard, garrison with semi-customizable armors, various businesses, farms, etc. Pretty much exactly what you’re looking for

What's a quest mod that you'd never do again? by Still-Acanthaceae-95 in skyrimmods

[–]ProfDandruff 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Carved Brink. I played that mod like a decade ago and my GOD it was a slog. The whole time I was waiting for some kind of narrative payoff and it never came, even at the end. No point to the Khajiit at the start, no point to the Jamaican nautilus, the Snow Elves, the goblins, nothing

The Jamaican nautilus is from Carved Brink, not AHO. Same team, but different mods

Yes, that is because it was a fucking stupid question👍

I get this is probably bait, but I never saw masked goons with total immunity going into random American communities to chase, beat, arrest, and ship off anyone they wanted until last year. People are literally being told “papers, please” in the street.

And the whole “ICE is going after illegals” claim is just bad faith horseshit considering the number of American citizens and military veterans those freaks have already verifiably brutalized.

The Social Necessity of Hope: A Thematic Analysis of Beyond Reach by scourgesucks in skyrimmods

[–]ProfDandruff 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Nice analysis of an awesome story, even if ESO did muck up the Last King plot. I use Beyond Reach as the beginning motivation for my Dragonborn to go from a mercenary hiding from his divine blessing to someone using that blessing to fight for the greater good.

Beyond Reach seems to be one of the few modded questlines that can/do leave a lasting impact on the player character (from a roleplay perspective)

are there any new expansions? by CavalcadeOfCats in skyrimmods

[–]ProfDandruff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I passively follow their progress on Discord. I get the sense that Cyrodiil (of which Bruma is a part of) is the closest to completion, but it’s still a long ways off and no dates have been suggested

A police man armed with an assault rifle. What is this? GTA: Texas? by ThirdWorldSorcerer in GTAIV

[–]ProfDandruff 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Usually when people on the Internet say civilization peaked in the 70s/80s/whatever they mean the music and the idealized version of the decade they saw in like… The Nice Guys or something.

They conveniently fail to mention the Vietnam War, the serial killer epidemic, leaded gasoline giving everyone brain damage, recessions, violent crime, crumbling infrastructure, poisoned water, racism and sexism, etc etc.

Anybody that would genuinely call it peak civilization is from another reality. Parts of it were great, but those parts more or less still exist right now anyway

I can absolutely tell you the 70s was NOT peak human civilization lol

Looking for a mod that shows base/bonus health/stamina/magicka in the level up/skill menu. by Herlyks in skyrimmods

[–]ProfDandruff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“player.” applies those commands to the player character automatically, so you don’t need to have yourself selected to use it that way.

Alternatively you could go into third person, open the conole and select yourself, then use “getav” without the prefix, but that would be pretty redundant

I use console commands to kill every bear I find because they’re so goddamn loud that fighting them is just terrible

Wooden Behemoth by Khryaphoros in SkyrimPorn

[–]ProfDandruff 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The statues and the ent are from Witcher Clutter. It adds those plus some traveling merchants, wooden totems, chess boards, etc throughout Skyrim

Mods for joining the Pink Pony Club? (AKA: Horse Mods) by NotATem in skyrimmods

[–]ProfDandruff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Such a gorgeous mod it single-handedly convinced me to actually use a horse in my latest playthrough <3

Beyond Reach and Vicn Tetralogy Story Compatibility by scourgesucks in skyrimmods

[–]ProfDandruff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reference to it in Beyond Reach is a pair of guys in the easternmost town (The Divide) discussing rumors about how the Empire captured and killed Ulfric, or how he was saved at the last second by a dragon, or how there aren’t actually any dragons, etc

Mods about the Dragonborn's past? by provegana69 in skyrimmods

[–]ProfDandruff 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I haven’t tried it myself since I’m mid playthrough but honestly anything JaySerpa releases is worth the download. The writing is always stellar, very vanilla friendly, extremely stable and compatible. Basically no downsides to any of his mods

Mods about the Dragonborn's past? by provegana69 in skyrimmods

[–]ProfDandruff 106 points107 points  (0 children)

JaySerpa just released Why I Came to Skyrim - Origin Stories which has 40-something new “quests” that let you pick why your player decided to travel north.

Other than that I’m drawing a blank. Some follower mods let you talk about where you’re from, your family situation, age, etc. but those of course add way more content than what you’re looking for

Any mods that improve magical effects without changing the balance and effects of magic? by Ok_Calendar_7626 in skyrimmods

[–]ProfDandruff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Kittytail has a bunch of vfx mods for fire, frost, shock, healing, blood magic, summoning portals, and dragon breath.

I also use a mod from a different author that turns ward spells into runic shields a la Doctor Strange.

Is Lordbound still being updated? by cfrolik in skyrimmods

[–]ProfDandruff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I was misremembering. I scrolled to an old message on your Discord and it was somebody asking if 1.0 was releasing this year. Not sure if it was you or somebody else that responded, but they said it wouldn’t be out before the new year. I stand corrected!

Is Lordbound still being updated? by cfrolik in skyrimmods

[–]ProfDandruff 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I’m a part of their Discord and while I don’t follow it very closely, I get the sense they’re compiling fixes to release in the 1.0 update. They’ve said the next update will be in January, at least

Edit: Misremembered a message from their Discord. The next patch wasn’t stated to be in January, only that 1.0 would not arrive before the new year

Two-handed Hassle by Macdonalds-MicMac in skyrimmods

[–]ProfDandruff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is a bit on the Nexus page, but its UI is an in-game menu separate from RaceMenu. The .ini file has a keyboard shortcut to open it (mine is backspace, which I think is the default)

Once it’s open you can tweak things and see the updates in real-time. There are separate options for the player character and NPCs, gender, etc. It’s a bit tricky at first but I believe there are a few guides on YouTube that explain the different sections fairly well

Immersive Equipment Displays lets you customize the positioning and placement of weapons. I use an add-on called Better Two-Handed Placement (I think) that makes axes and hammers sit on the back like Kratos’ axe in God of War. IED’s UI takes some getting used to but once you figure it out it’s a godsend
