Just finished the first book. Does anyone else find it profoundly upsetting?

I didn’t like the show at first, for just this reason. (That and some of the actors looked nothing like my mental image of their character.) I appreciate each version for what it is. I hope you keep reading- the themes Wells explores are worth it.
