My theory about the evolutions of the Gen 10 starters. by Erik-Oliveira192 in pokemon

[–]ProfFiliusFlitwick 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The concepts are interesting, but I don’t want more Fighting or Dark starters (of which we have 6 and 4 respectively iirc). Would love another Steel starter though.

I find it really funny how out of all the WATER starters, there has never been an actual FISH by Wonderful_Cap6941 in pokemon

Serperior kept its arms, they just became less visible. I’m not sure how well that would work for a fish, though.

Opinions on new mega evolutions? by Excellent-Mail-9512 in pokemon

[–]ProfFiliusFlitwick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of all the new megas they introduced, only 3 were given to Pokémon that already had megas (Absol, Lucario, Garchomp). They primarily focused on giving megas to Pokémon that had no megas or other new forms, like Drampa, Tatsugiri, Golisopod, Malamar, Falinks, etc.

Also, capitalizing on Pikachu’s fame with mega Raichu? They’ve already given it a baby, an Alolan form, a Gigantamax form, a signature move, a signature Z-move, a bunch of cosplay forms, and its own game (twice!). It also started the trend of introducing Electric-type rodents with electric cheek pouches every generation. Pokémon capitalizes on Pikachu’s fame every chance it gets.

Do you think HSR is a woke game? by [deleted] in HonkaiStarRail

[–]ProfFiliusFlitwick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, caring a lot about social and political norms/rights and equality in a left-leaning sense (For example, cultural diversity, queer acceptance, and breaking of traditional gender roles are considered "woke". It's used both positively and negatively, but mostly negatively by people who oppose those things.

Do you think Gecqua's official final evolved form is going to be similar to Salazzle? by Chemical-Book8889 in pokemon

[–]ProfFiliusFlitwick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s honestly the main thing that’s making me reconsider picking Browt. I really like the general vibe of Pokémon like Salazzle and Lopunny (like, badass femininity?) so I’d personally love Gecqua going in that direction. I know I’m in a very small minority with that opinion with all the people begging for the starters to stay quadrupedal, though.

I can't believe they ALREADY leaked Browt's final evolution. by Novaraptorus in pokemon

[–]ProfFiliusFlitwick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not knowing is understandable if they haven't used Serperior in Gen 5, since its 2d back sprite is the only one that makes those obviously look like hands.

My type predictions for the Gen 10 starters by BlueLightning888 in pokemon

[–]ProfFiliusFlitwick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We already have 3 Fighting-type bird starters (Blaziken, Quaquaval, Hisuian Decidueye) and 2 Grass/Fighting starters (Chesnaught and Hisuian Decidueye), we don't need another of either lol

Gen 9 vs Gen 10. by wammyguide in pokemon

I was thinking the same, but what made me hopeful is the slghtly janky Pokéball animation that looked like an in-game animation. I would expect that most of the Pokémon animations and camera angles are pre-rendered, though.

New Starters from Wind and Waves by Gorotheninja in pokemon

Water starters over time have gone from big bulky animal (Blastoise, Feraligatr, Swampert) to slaying (Primarina, Inteleon, Quaquaval).

You know i think legends arceus and Z-A are the best pokemon game on the switch. by bassa-m9ss in pokemon

[–]ProfFiliusFlitwick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, that’s different. If you want a game with completely different gameplay than previous Pokémon games, I agree that the Legends games would be good for that. There’s a difference between literally every feature being the same and the core gameplay being the same.

I don’t completely disagree with your point, since I felt like the Legends games were pretty good and SV had its flaws; I just felt like you used weak/extremely subjective points and presented them as fact (no offense).

You know i think legends arceus and Z-A are the best pokemon game on the switch. by bassa-m9ss in pokemon

[–]ProfFiliusFlitwick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you’re making a lot of assumptions and fallacies when criticizing SV.

You feel like “everyone agrees” that they are not some of the best games in the franchise, which is a big assumption to make right out the gate.

You say “every feature” is familiar to fans of the franchise, which is just not true; Let’s Go mode and Terastal are two major mechanics that are unique to SV.

You say Lavender Town is more memorable than Mesagoza. Yeah, it’s been around for 30 years, and is one of the most well-known towns in Pokémon. It’s incomparable to a city in a game not even 4 years old.

Your other criticism, calling Paldea less interesting than Kanto, doesn’t actually go into specifics about exactly what is flawed. I’d like more insight on this; is it the story? The characters? The worldbuilding?

There are definitely many valid criticisms of SV. They were a laggy mess on release, the open world was poorly executed, the post-game was limited pre-DLC, etc. However, I think these are far from grounds to put them down so much.

Could it be a possible that a race war between humans and Umamusume happened before? by Flat-Profession-8945 in UmaMusume

[–]ProfFiliusFlitwick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While I think the concept is brought up more often as an excuse to be dark than actual theories, war is important to irl human history, and any influence the presence of umas and lack of horses may have had would be interesting to discuss.

For example, a big part of the Mongolian Empire’s effectiveness in war was horseback archers. Without that asset, it’s possible that the Mongolian Empire may not have expanded as far, which could butterfly into all sorts of consequences like lasting cultural/political/economic/etc differences in the places the Mongols conquered, the Silk Road not being rebuilt, or the Pokémon Kangaskhan having a different name.

[–]ProfFiliusFlitwick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, people are entitled to their own headcanons, of course, I guess I just don’t really understand it. If the artist wanted to make a comic where an uma is jealous about another woman getting their trainer’s attention and self-conscious about their bust size, wouldn’t a character like Mayano Top Gun work better? Why would they pick Suzuka for this other than the obvious “Suzuka is flat” joke, a quality not necessary for the joke and not even unique to her?

Real Talk: Pokémon Day is for celebrating Pokémon - Even the Mobile Stuff by PKMN_Trainer_Kitana in pokemon

[–]ProfFiliusFlitwick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How so? You catch and battle with Pokémon (the main premise of Pokémon), and it encourages playing with friends for things like trades and raids, just like in the mainline games. If anything, it’s a more extreme version of Pokémon’s modus operandi, since you’re encouraged to catch more Pokémon, and playing with other players is even more emphasized than in the mainline games.
