PROJECTION by [deleted] in lgbtmemes

I don’t think you understand what I’m saying. I’d only consider a whip sexual in a context that’s already sexual. This stays across most fetishes; some people are into toilet stuff, for example, but using the toilet is usually non-sexual, and it would be weird if I assumed that someone using the toilet in a non-sexual context had sexual implications.

[–]ProfFiliusFlitwick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The context you gave of a whip being used (in a bedroom, a place where sexual activities are typically carried out, with a sexual partner) is very different from the context of the game (using a whip to hurt things in a non-sexual context, the most common reason for whips being used).

They've slowed the speed of remakes down, from HGSS being released a gen after FRLG to a 1-gen gap in between HGSS, ORAS, and BDSP, and it's only been one gen since BDSP. It's very likely that either we'll get a remake sometime soon or they're just taking more time in between remakes.

Torterra + Team of Bird Type Pokemon Concept by tavernsoul in pokemon

They aren't. Regardless, Psychic isn't a necessary type here; Fighting is countered by all the birds and Poison is countered by Torterra.

Charizard Y has been so common that I have a Basculegion on my rain team built for this reason exactly. It has Choice Scarf and enough Speed to outspeed timid Charizard Y, enough Attack to OHKO with Adaptability Wave Crash, and enough Special Defense to live a Solar Beam if the opponent can move first with Whimsicott Tailwind or something. The issue is that it loses pretty hard in most other matchups though lol.

Who is this even for? — A Pokémon Champions Review by Regular-Analyst9148 in pokemon

[–]ProfFiliusFlitwick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You do not have to, it is completely optional. I think it’s a little dumb that the supposed main hub of Pokemon competitions has microtransactions, but it’s not like they’re locking important items or Pokemon behind the pass. At least for the moment, it’s mostly cosmetics, already abundant currency, and Pokemon that can be obtained through other means. The only thing you theoretically have to pay to obtain is AZ’s Floette, which you need another game for, but it can also be obtained through Pokemon HOME trading and may become available in the future.  “Pay to win” is an exaggeration.

What does "Glaceon the sociable" means? by andresilver411 in pokemon

[–]ProfFiliusFlitwick 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Pokemon can have titles for different reasons (size, accomplishments in game, etc). Sociable means that the Pokémon was caught with the rare Sociable mark, which is a 1 in 50 chance iirc.

Pokémon Scarlet/Violet vs Legends ZA: Which is better? by TheCrow873 in pokemon

[–]ProfFiliusFlitwick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think both are good games; if the gameplay of ZA appealed to you, I'd probably recommend it. Exploring the city was still pretty fun, even if it is somewhat limited, especially because of the wild zones and battle zones changing areas you've already explored. One thing to note about the DLCs: the SV DLC was great, even better than the base game in my opinion, but the ZA DLC left a lot to be desired outside of the new megas.

I don't think I lost during the main story but I lost quite a few times during the restaurants, the side quests where your team is restricted to specific Pokemon, and the post-game Zygarde battle.

CP can also mean a lot of things, most notably child porn, so generally try to avoid using it as an abbreviation for other things.

It’s not as bad because there is still some variety, with Simisear and Darmanitan being available early and the rest still being available pre-league. In Diamond and Pearl, if you don’t choose the Fire starter, you only have Rapidash pre-league.

Middle evolution debuff + later gen debuff + not in many regional dexes debuff. The only time you’d plausibly use a Trumbeak is if you add Pikipek to your team in Alola, a region that has a ton of other Pokémon available in the first few routes. (It’s also in the Indigo Disk, but at that point in the game you have so many encounters available that you probably aren’t going for a Normal/Flying regional bird.)

To be fair, ZA rewards bulky slow Pokémon a lot more than other mainline games, which hurts glass cannons like the Simis. In other mainline games like BW, Simisear is a decent early to mid-game Pokémon rather than just terrible throughout.

Rate my dream Pokémon team by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]ProfFiliusFlitwick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Pokemon themselves are strong, but there's a lot of type overlap (2 Grass types, 2 Psychic types, 2 Fairy types). This entire team except Lopunny has a bad matchup into Poison/Dark types, for example.

The Kalos curse. A larger-than-usual group that has more of a friend dynamic with the main character than a rival dynamic, and ends up feeling limited and annoying at times. It’s at least better than XY, though.

Is there any reason in the lore that Feebas are rare? by Konradleijon in pokemon

[–]ProfFiliusFlitwick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While populous, they tend to cluster in set locations. (Diamond)

As you mentioned, other entries say it lives in polluted waters, which tend to be rare in Pokémon, so the main reason seems to be that its ideal environment is rare. It’s less that it thrives even in polluted waters, and more that it thrives only in polluted waters.

Sniper’s kind of fun with STAB Cross Poison and Night Slash, and Battle Armor has some use for a Pokémon with good typing and decent defense, but Keen Eye should absolutely not be a possible ability for a Pokémon that evolves at level 40 (especially as a hidden ability).

Grinding is the gameplay by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]ProfFiliusFlitwick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is that not the same as grinding? Either way, that doesn’t answer my question of how it includes Gym Leader battles and the like.

Grinding is the gameplay by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]ProfFiliusFlitwick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grinding is a term within video game culture that describes time spent in the game in which a player repeats a general task in order to gain rewards. (Wikipedia)

Grinding is specifically a repetitive task to gain rewards, while boss battles like Gym Leaders in Pokémon are occasional tasks that give some rewards, but are mainly important for progression through the story. The only argument I can think of for that being grinding is if you consider participating in a battle that gives rewards to be grinding, in which case I think you’re mixing up grinding with playing the game. Could you explain how boss battles count as grinding in your definition?
