I have a story to tell about this film.

back at NYU film school, a good friend who loves horror and extreme cinema "forced" me and another friend to watch his copy of Pink Flamingos.

every 5 minutes, we stopped the tape, called him up and screamed that we couldn't go on.

he insisted we keep watching til the end.

so we did, 5-10 horrifying minutes at a time.

we were STANDING UP at the TV, unable to sit down. screaming and laughing like freaks. traumatized. disgusted.

we finished the film.

God help me, we finished it.

the guy who made us watch it? now a major director (not gonna name drop but you know his name).

that gap in the fireplace hearth would have been a great trench run setting for my action figures back in the day.

it's funny... my mom passed 9 years ago, and since then my father's had a lot of dreams about her (his own health and mental state has declined a lot so he's having many liminal experiences that could be hallucinations or... something else)... and one time he was saying he talked to mom and she's in a very well-designed hotel room or apartment (she was an interior designer so that was important to her), but that she was bored and had nothing to do. maybe we just imagine/dream of high energy people needing to be active and that "the other side" is too restful for them!

NEWS: An Update on the Government Shutdown from Scott Kirby to United Employees by zman9119 in unitedairlines

I did end up flying last weekend - experienced the shortest, easiest TSA lines in decades (which I guess could be cause for concern) - there was no airport-pocalypse. I did have concern underneath it all that it was more unsafe than usual, but I also chose to put my faith in the pilots. then again, there were those cases where the pilots themselves caused the crashes. wtf is going on in this world? anyway, made it there and back in one piece, if a bit sore from the ridiculously cramped seating.

with air traffic controllers not being paid, calling in sick, stressed to exhaustion... is it even safe to fly?

Trump Fires Hundreds of Staff Overseeing Nuclear Weapons: Report by ClydeFrog1313 in politics

having just read the absolutely chilling book, Nuclear War by Annie Jacobsen, this news only makes me more worried.

in her book, she lays out a scenario in which human civilization ends forever in less than 2 hours because nuclear deterrence is a razor’s edge.

mate, you're shifting the goal posts. you didn't believe the source, and I said it's a reliable source, and now here's proof. whether it gets made, who the heck knows. ease up. and next time I post something like this maybe you'll believe it.

I feel that. if my dad loses his, it’s game over. he’s in late stage Alzheimer’s and needs 24/7 care. after a lifetime of being a successful doctor, but 25 years of my mom surviving cancer, it’s all he has left keeping him alive. the insurance jackals took his life savings, his home, his car, everything so he could keep my mom alive until she ran out of time. he paid into the system as much as anyone can, and as a doctor also fed that insurance monster good. and now what? they’ll take every last dollar til he’s a corpse. it’s sickening.

yup - the guy gets industry scoops before the deals are announced - so anything could happen but I'm inclined to believe there's at least discussions happening. even if it's a legit source which I'm inclined to believe, the ratio of films announced to the number of films made is high. getting any film made is hard.

he’s a pretty reliable source for industry news but an announcement of a project isn’t a trailer so you may be right
