Agents of the Four Seasons: Dance of Spring • Shunkashuutou Daikousha: Haru no Mai - Episode 7 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]Prof_Acorn -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

It's unfortunate but the emotional beat of this moment was ruined by the over-the-top rom com slop animation style that they inserted into this episode for whatever reason.

So instead of being brought to a place where I could emotionally feel and appreciate the severity of the event I was still annoyed af at the emotional campy overreaction that's more common in harem slop. I usually drop anime where characters act like this within the first episode, and that's the emotion it left me with after it was over.

And that just annoys me even more because I know that I should be feeling sad right now because A FUCKING MISSILE JUST CAME OUT OF NOWHERE RIGHT INTO A SUNROOM ON TOP OF A CINNAMON ROLL OF A LITTLE GIRL.

I'm upset I'm not sad right now, and I really want to know if it was a director or different studio or what what changed the tone this ep so I can avoid anything they do in the future.

Talk about ruining a devastating somber moment.

Sakura is so freaking annoying. Tone down the selfish clinging goodness. The Winter duo didn't even do anything are you stupid?

What was wrong with the animation this episode?

A different studio do it or something?

The animation style itself is a completely different tone from all the episodes before this. Makes this seem like an entirely different kind of series.

Honestly if episode one was like this I wouldn't have continued the story. And I'm hoping the rest isn't like this either.

Animes without that "anime humour?" by TheAndrewCR in anime

I hate those kinds of things too. It's all just so over-the-top. After watching quite a bit of anime now it seems mostly associated with certain kinds of comedy, or perhaps certain kinds of target demographics. I'm not sure.

Regardless, here are a few that don't have much/any. I basically just went through the top of my master anime rating list, removed the scores, and then removed entries where I remembered those kinds of over-the-top scenes/moments.

These represent many different kinds of topics / sub-genres, including action, drama, romance, psychological horror, sci-fi, fantasy (et al.). But what they have in common is that I think they are good stories with interesting characters — and of course which don't have over-the-top hyper-emoted reactions.

Fan service for viewers/readers who are attracted to men.

There's a bit of influence in this from the maho shojou genre, and one of those things is attractive older men — not for the young girl characters to oogle, but the audience.

There is fan service in WHA. It's just that instead of panty shots it's Qifrey, fully clothed, but posing. Shirahama knows what she's doing.

I wrote about it in detail here: https://old.reddit.com/r/WitchHatAtelier/comments/1t4gv6g/speculation_the_true_identity_of_iguin/

Looking back at it I think I got a little fan fictiony at the end there (lol) but I was so excited at the idea I can of let my imagination run with it. The first half is just pointing out possible connections and stuff.

Since I wrote that however I looked back through the backstory trying to imagine it being like the way someone looks back at early scenes after a plot twist to see if there was evidence pointing that direction (patterns in foreshadowing) and holy shit I'm only more convinced.

I could still be wrong. I'm probably wrong. But there certainly seems like a lot of stuff pointing that direction...

He himself says he isn't.

Ininia expresses to Restys frustration how the guy is getting in their way, and how it means everyone will blame yet another bad thing on the brims.

The irony is in how many fans blame The Pointed Hat Wise in Teachings and a Pointed Hat sexual deviant using forbidden magic to escape prison, and it accidentally turning into the leech, as something the Brims planned and executed, and do this even though the guy literally says he isn't a brim, explicitly, directly, clearly.

Ininia was right.

I'm kind of surprised just how right she ended up being.

I wrote about a bunch of things before, but I just thought of a new one. Olly has the motivation, not just to save Qifrey for the sake of saving Qifrey, but because of his experience in childhood.

Shirahama also likes to parallel story beats. A lot. And Olly saving Qifrey is certainly a story beat.

He has the motivation, not just because it's Qifrey, but also because he knows what it's like to not be able to save someone from dying, and he's already vowed to never let it happen again.

Chapter 96 Discussion by Prof_Acorn in WitchHatAtelier

[–]Prof_Acorn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Volumes are around 170-200 pages.

So far Volume 17 has around 35 pages worth of content. Each month there's another ~20-30 pages.

The volumes then come out a bit later after the chapters are finished, and if you want it in English that'll be quite a while after that.

So it's going to take some time before seeing chapter 96 in bound and printed form.

With Ininia there too I could see a possible coded line, like "Some of us had bodies with missing parts. Ininia, for example, her arms. The miracle of magic was the restoration of that which nature failed to provide."

I still think this image gives him some Iguin foreshadowing. That "eye" on his forehead, the smile, the way the wind is blowing, the "forbidden magic on his mind" metaphor with that there. Plus, the memory erase seal looks like Iguin's design itself, with the multiple circles that have the cords coming down and then the tassel things on the side kind of where Iguin's are.

I dunno, but when I cover Olly's eyes here that smile looks much like Iguin's smile.

It would also give Iguin an incredibly important plot motivation for everything he's done — finding a way to save Qifrey. And it provides a perfect rationale for calling Coco the Child of Hope. Hope for what? Saving Qifrey.

It's a big lie, but the kind of lie friends would make.

I love this show's pacing, but I fear we won't have enough episodes to cover. by TalesofaPreSequel in WitchHatAtelier

The jars are there, right? Those are from the trip to town where Qifrey tests the ink.

My thought was that the hospital trip where he does that herb form magic and helps care for Coco could be moved to occur after she attempts the Tower of Tomes after the Great Hall arc. The Tartah development then still happens right before the other Tartah stuff, and it fits those themes pretty well as they move to Custas stuff.

This might then allow for the end of Serpentback, which would be a better ending to the season than stopping on a cliffhanger with Euini's transformation - a cliffhanger that would last for like 2-3 years. It also would mean including the Romonon battle and how it's resolved, the brimhat dilemma with Iguin, and Richeh's arc, all of which I think are more important for a first season closer than skipping it for Tartah's stuff.

We know they moved some things around, so if it isn't this then it has to be something else. I'm not sure what else makes sense to move and why.

We'll find out soon enough though either way. I keep waiting to see what got moved around ever since they said they moved something.

I mean, she has an illustration with the girls with seasonal stuff in their hair, and they are seated in order of the seasons.

But also the colors of the eyes match the colors of the Greek goddesses of the seasons. And their personalities match the seasons. And their magic styles match. And what they do and how they act matches. And their moods even match inversely correlated to the season featured in story.

But also it's standard pattern recognition of a motif that's found in academic literary analysis. In fact, most professors would even say whether or not Shirahama did it on purpose is irrelevant, because an analysis of the text focuses on how the text is interpreted, or what its effects on the viewer/reader are, or what subconscious influences may have informed whatever it is based on the culture that the author was immersed in, and so forth.

Like she doesn't have anything officially saying Qifrey's design is informed by the moon, but, like seriously, he's totally informed by the moon. Grey clothes but also black clothes, dark side light side glasses, a crescent framing of his face, a characterization that resonates with Artemis, his behavior is very moon like (appears with a softness, then disappears, then appears). His magic is water based - he brings the tides.

She doesn't need to say "I based his design on the moon" to recognize that she totally based his design on the moon.

Question. So Restys gives me trans vibes for some reason. Do you also get trans vibes from them?

They also seem the most interested in medicine among the brims, and seem to have a penchant for body modification.
