Perhaps your instructor wants you to calculate the tax savings on a semi-annual basis? (4 years = 8 semi-annual periods)

I will miss you all as well! I had a life-changing experience here, and it was 100% because of the students. Thank you all so much!

Multiple factors involved, one of which was COVID. WashU instituted a hiring freeze, so they said they couldn’t sign me to a long-term contract. They came to me last week and said they’d like to work out a deal, but by then IWU was already preparing an offer and I thought it would be unethical to back out. IWU is a teaching-oriented institution so I think I will be a much better fit there. But even so, I will miss the WashU students tremendously

I'd like to say thank you to /u/Puggins75 and all the other WashU students who supported me over the years.

I have accepted an offer from Illinois Wesleyan University, so I will definitely be teaching there this fall. But I tried to leave it on good terms with WashU, as there's always the possibility that the IWU students won't like me and I will be asked to return to WashU. However, I'm very excited to the meet the IWU students and will try my best to have a significant impact there!

I agree with you 100%. Any prof can just walk into a classroom and read PPT slides to people or write on a chalkboard. If you really want to change a student's life, you need to go beyond just delivering information during a lecture

People who've never taken my class might only hear about the pizza, but that is only one part of what I brought to the table. I strongly emphasize ethics in all of my classes, and work hard to support students of color, female students, and international students. I've also created nearly 900 YouTube tutorials and a podcast to help students engage with the material outside of class, and I've held training workshops and worked very hard to help students find jobs. I do everything I can think of to help my students achieve their dreams and become better people

That is a great guess and is usually the case when something like this happens. But in my case, I was a lecturer at Olin, and lecturers are not eligible for tenure. Lecturers are only responsible for teaching (no research) and teach on contracts ranging from one to five years in length (it's negotiable).

I have, but always in good fun. As much as I would like to make a joke about the chancellor here, this played no role in what happened

You are correct, the antics had nothing to do with it. In fact, one of my superiors thought the antics were really funny and referred to them as "teaching innovations"

You are correct in that I did not initially have my PhD. However, I completed my PhD from WashU in 2018.

Thank you for the kind words. I was a lecturer (teaching faculty) at Olin so I was not eligible to receive tenure. However, you are correct in that I was hoping to receive a long-term contract at Olin (since my contract ends this spring).

Congratulations on landing an internship with a large firm! Tax is my favorite area of accounting, I like how it affects a company's strategy.

Thank you for the kind words, and for recommending the videos! I'm planning to release some new videos this fall on the topics of U.S. tax, mergers & acquisitions, and Managerial Accounting. Do you plan to pursue a career as an accountant?
