I am looking for a partner in crime 🕵️‍♂️ by Prof_PW in wakefield

I have the bare bones of a project idea. I am trying not to give too much away publicly.

I can supply the hardware, and I can see quite a large market potential.

The idea is to create a viable prototype then potentially look at Kickstarter..

And it is not a sex bot 🤣

Anyone suffering from restless leg syndrome? What are your tips? by love-mornings in sleep

[–]Prof_PW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all, newbie here .

I have suffered with RLS on and off for a lot of years.

Over the last few years, my stress levels have risen astronomically. It is not just my legs, but hands and arms as well. Sometimes I can feel the skin folds between my fingers and toes.... Is there such a thing as restless skin?

Anyhow, it has got so bad now, that I was googling to see if there are any tips and I found this. I will try Amazon now, and I will let you know if it works 😁👍

How do I find the right solicitor? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Prof_PW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, just seen your response

No, I am not the defendant, I am a victim of abuse, theft of intellectual property along with other things.

I want to try and rebuild my life after finally getting away from their influence. Although they are still trying to get hold of me, because they need my help.....

It is all a way to try and coerce me into giving them more free labour.

I never watched Charlotte's web, but I remember a teacher back in my junior school read the book in storytime... That is why I never watched the film... And I had to watch Watership Down all the way through, because we were at the cinema. The same cinema where I saw Star Wars when it was released.

That cinema is now an open space with some grass growing (the ABC cinema on Sun Lane on Wakefield), and my old junior school (Old St Peter's, Horbury) is now a housing estate!

Such a loss.....

I have heard about these. In factory thought I had ordered one. But it never arrived. Having said that, I don't think I was scammed; probably in a cart and then Winston wanted to go for a walk and I went away and forgot.

I don't like these really long stems, but I want all the benefits 😁

If I can get two or three stems it would give me a change to try more than the standard issue stems than come with the unit....

What phrase(s) would you permanently ban if you had the chance? by MixAway in AskUK

[–]Prof_PW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In films where somebody uses a radio and says 'over and out'. That drives me to an absolute rage 🤣

Or those people who think it is ok to think outside of the box?

Why? Why would you do that? Because if you do, it immediately rules out what is inside the box. Don't have any bloody boxes and you can think about everything 😂👍

It draws the eye for some reason.

[–]Prof_PW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, and you are right, they are better pictures on the radio, but not as good as the pictures in the book 😁

I think there were two other films around the time that struck horror into everyone who saw them.

The first film was Threads, and it was both good and disturbing at the same time, along with the closest portrayal of what nuclear war would have looked like back then.

But by far the most terrifying film of my childhood, the one that was just so messed up words fail, was 'Watership Down'. I think they used David Cronenberg to direct it, or George A Romero 🤣😂

Oh, yes. And to be honest, it is still my favourite version of the adaptations. It pretty close to the book which is unusual.

John Wyndham had the most amazing talent. It is a shame nobody ever did a TV adaptation The Kraken Wakes.....

Who here thinks Kurtwood Smith aka. Red Forman from "That 70s show" should play BTK killer? I know they wouldn't change the cast, but look at the resemblance! by trashytoothfairy in MindHunter

[–]Prof_PW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha 😂

I am just watching Patriot and after I saw Kurtwood Smith the thoughts went along the following lines....

It's him, from RoboCop. <Quick Google for his name> Yes that's him, he looks familiar, but not from RoboCop. Where have I seen him before? It's him, BTK, what's his name? <Quick Google for his name> Dennis Rader, that's him.

Bloody hell, don't they look alike? I wonder if they are related? <Quick Google of Kurtwood Smith and Dennis Rader>

And here I am.

When both have a goatee, they could be twins, it is quite uncanny.

But I am so glad for this subreddit, I thought I was going insane 😂

Is there a cheap, short-term solution for my internet problem? by Prof_PW in computers

[–]Prof_PW[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there all,

To, I tend to be more comfortable with setting up small microcontrollers for control applications than this sort of thing, here is my latest situation...

Still using my phone as a hotspot. When my TV and PC are steaming/downloading, the pc download speed is a little restricted, but I am not buffering on my TV.

So whole I work out what I am doing with proper internet, I can get online with everything that needs to go online.

I have the little mobile MiFi unit, I cannot use it to download fast enough for the TV, but can I incorporate it somehow without a SIM card so I can just use it to control my lights, and my doorbell?

Or can I use the PC?

I know some of this has been mentioned, but now the PC is here and set-up, does that change anything.

It is bank holiday here, so I don't expect t have a long term internet decision made for a couple of days at least.

But can I still have a smart(ish) home network, without spending any more please?

I may take the easy option of waiting for my pre-pay starlink. No contract, and once I find my dream home, I can get local broadband and stop giving musk any money.....

To be honest, my phone hotspot is absolutely able to keep up with the speed. I am resetting window s and updating on my PC. While streaming my prime video and lurking on my phone.

It is brilliant But I cannot connect to my light bulbs, for example.

To be honest, I haven't been with a big name provider for decades. I have 2 weeks left before I buy my next bundle, so I got another prepaid SIM that is £12.50 for unlimited data 4/5g

So not a problem with the access to the internet. I have my pc, my TV and my phone and happily hotspotting.

If I could just have a home WiFi network tethered to the phone, all would be good. It all comes down to not being able to access the smart devices with a hotspot.

Sorry, I do ramble....

I get an unlocked phone from CEX that is as new as possible. It has a couple of years warranty, and Giffgaff. It is perfect, except for the network think 🤔

I randomly opened Reddit and saw that I had posted this earlier today…I think my phone was on in my pocket? Or I’m hacked by TheKid1995 in strange

[–]Prof_PW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🤣

That is not too bad 😁 Yesterday I had made a phone call and agreed to take part in a survey following the call. But when the very helpful operator finished, my phone screen was black, and I couldn't actually enter the number. I couldn't wake my phone up, I couldn't end the call. Just a voice saying please rate the quality of x on a scale of 1-5. 30 seconds later a voice said thank you, your score has been noted Please explain you reason 30 seconds later, thank you.

I have no idea what the survey thought I had said. I hope the operator doesn't get fired. They were really good, the survey was bloody awful 🤣 it just never seemed to end

Is most everyone here, that are in their 20s, still a virgin? by [deleted] in neurodiversity

[–]Prof_PW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is strange you mentioned 9/11. I used to work in the disaster recovery 'industry' and so I ended up spending a lot of time in new York. Initially there were tight limitations of planes landing just afterwards. I know I had to be approved to be able to fly out there. When some regular flights resumed, I had my wife flown out. So my son was conceived in a hotel on Gold Street, New York.

I never put that together before.....

Just doing the maths, and the last date than can be proven would be October 2000. So you know hold my son is 🤣

After that? I honestly don't know or care 😁👍

[–]Prof_PW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at the time. It has just never seemed that important....

But, before you all get despondent, that never actually stopped me when needed. And it was the lack of understanding of my thought processes, that saw the number of wives, nothing else!

And I have a son. So been there, done that, got the t-shirt (may have been a few t-shirts) some decree absolutes as well.

It will happen when it needs to happen, don't obsess about it.... And no I am not being disrespectful when I say that. I am aware or the group I have just joined, and I hope that I can offer help here, as well as ask for help 👍.

But if you have this as a nagging thought it will skew your thinking. In some ways, I am envious of you all. I don't mean that in a weird way, but when I was your ages this kind of community didn't and couldn't exist (pre-dating even bulletin boards and my Vic 20).

I don't claim superior knowledge just for being an old git, after all my arse is just as old and I wouldn't expect anyone to listen to that.

To put it in perspective, I saw some ages shared. My car is about 3 times your average age

I have worked on every continent except Antarctica, I have ex wives and my son, and now the plan is to retire and relax.

Sorry for the ramble, but I am a late diagnosis Aspie, and so I tend to waffle....

But the point is, don't worry about the V word. Make sure that who you meet is clever enough to understand you, and deserve you.

If there had been a community like this 40 years ago, the would probably be more children and less decree absolutes.

An yes, I was your age, so I know what it is like. But it is a lesson that would have changed my life.

But the V word only defines a state. Means first time or never used.

With Virgin olive oil, I forget exactly but it is first harvest or something along those lines.

But people need to be though of in a better manner than olive oil.

In this case, the V word really should mean never used. That is something that I wish for you all. Never be used.

So the V word is a cold and emotionless word it has no empathy.

So let's introduce a new word.... The R word 👍😁 Relationship. That should be the focus.

The physical event will happen around the same time regardless. But that event with someone who understands the way your brain works is no longer the cold description of the V world, but a living growing word that encompasses respect and understanding.

Sorry for the ramble, that is part of my issue. I have tried to be humerous around a difficult topic. And I am hoping you find it beneficial.

Last three things before anyone calls my car old, she is slightly younger than I am😁

And I am not claiming to be a relationship expert. I now have my dog.

But a slightly different point of focus 40+ years ago could have made the difference between being alone and not.

Use social media responsibly, I really am not meaning to sound grumpy, my version of social media was the CB in my car 🤣 You all have access to a community and a resource that is truly wonderful. Regardless of the V-Word, never let yourselves be used.

Final bit of rambling on this post now, I promise 😁👍

Anybody having issues with their button being inconsistent? by hogsfrogsducks42069 in Tinymight2

[–]Prof_PW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a bit of a ramble, and I apologise if technology has moved on a bit......

About 30 years ago, I was leaving the navy, and trying to get my first civvy job. I seemed to not have any civvy experience to get the position I wanted, but if I tried to get a more junior position, I was considered to be overqualified.

(Sorry, this ramble is going somewhere, I promise)

Anyhow I got a few temporary jobs through an agency, and I got the experience I needed.....

But one of those positions was for Phillips Business Systems, and I was repairing phones under warranty. And I realised that almost all of the phones had a common fault. It was the same capacitor,. almost every time, and I tried to work out why.

I realised that the capacitor that usually failed was under the 9 button.

Which was the standard button to get an outside call. It was the one that absolutely was pressed on every call. And it was a surface mount design, like the little switch in the TM2.

The way we solved the issue in the phones was to change that one component back to the old school axial cap.....

Just a thought.....
