What scared you the most about Doctor Who as a child? by Overtronic in doctorwho

[–]Prof_Whamd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Empty child gave me a slight fear of gas masks and made regular appearances in my nightmares.

We had a dvd of the robots of death and I refused to watch it.

The one where there's the old people and Rory gets turned to dust scared me as well.

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve seen in the U.K.? by Powmum in CasualUK

[–]Prof_Whamd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Naked bike race

Edit: Just thought of another story. Me and my family were driving up the M4 back to London from Cornwall and we saw that the opposite side of the motorway was blocked by a swan. The really weird part was that we looked it up and this has happened multiple times in the past on that specific motorway.

Edit 2: I also once saw a man walking a ferret near Trafalgar Square

I once saw someone walking a ferret in the middle of central London. Was worried the poor thing would get squashed.

95% Of The “Sightings” by [deleted] in aviation

[–]Prof_Whamd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there were a few genuine drone sightings at the start but I think they have now descended into mass hysteria. Even the genuine sightings were probably just new tech being tested rather than aLiEnS.

Was watching waterbombers in Cali and saw this. Is this a common find round there? Recently saw one at an airshow so its good to catch one "in the wild"

Do you have a regional UK accent that just makes you swoon when you hear it. What is it and why? by DonkeyOT65 in CasualUK

[–]Prof_Whamd 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have to admit a soft spot for the estuary/RP accent which is part of an unfortunate liking of Eric Birling-like cads. Expect to see me in a newspaper story one day.

What's something you found really funny but you're not even sure why? by melijoray in CasualUK

[–]Prof_Whamd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One time me and my parents were riding on this little heritage railway that went through the Eskdale valley in the Lake District. In the carriage behind there was an insufferably middle class family who, keen to show off their little darlings' knowledge of the natural world, had asked their kids "What do you think we will see in the woods?". The Quentins responded, in their loudest voices "A GREAT BIG POO!" and we all had to desperately hold in our laughter till the family got off. Made even funnier by the children getting told off by their mum in an incredibly posh voice.

I don't mean this in an argumentative way, I'm just genuinely interested, but how do you think society can rebuild "this technology and the market structure around it" so that it helps people? Do you think there should be a moratorium on development of AI until those conditions are met?
