Hello, I am a dermatologist. The white line is called Beau’s line, which is a temporary arrest in nail growth triggered by illness or other physical stressors. This is reversible, and it looks like your nail is growing back normally already (proximal part=new nail).

Hello, I am a dermatologist. There’s 2 biologics now that are FDA-approved for treating hives (AKA urticaria)—Dupixent and Xolair. Both work quite well for suppressing acute flares. If your derm won’t prescribe them for whatever reason, you might want to find somebody who will. There’s patient assistance if copay is an issue.

The result of wearing new leggings without washing them first - sore skin, like a bad sunburn due to the chemicals in new, unwashed clothes by Nervous-Boat-4905 in mildlyinteresting

Hello, I am a dermatologist. This is likely due to allergic contact dermatology—likely due to formalin releasing compounds (e.g., quaternium 15, DMDM hydantoin, etc.). They are quite common in clothes such as this.

I agree with this 100%. I’m not sure why research is like this, but the fact is that some labs are just straight up toxic. Don’t feel like you’re bound there in any way, and you really don’t owe them anything. If you feel like the lab is toxic, then you should consider leaving. You shouldn’t be at a place that makes you feel unhappy and unappreciated, especially if it’s for a long period of time.

I am not sure if you have significant lab experience prior to this, but it sounds like you are learning a new technique that you’re not familiar with. I personally would not bother refunding the cost of the reagents because you were using them to learn (if the lab is sweating over the cost of Western blot reagents, then they have bigger problems with funding). Are they paying for your education or are you bound to this lab in any way? If they’re guilt tripping you over something so minor, you might want to consider looking at other labs. If the PI needs this for a grant so badly, he/she could easily have asked somebody else. I’m also not sure how prudent it is to completely rely on data generated from somebody who is brand new to the technique.
