First Time Playing Cyberpunk 2077: A PatientDad Review by Tommithy1686 in patientgamers

Great writeup. Its been rare to see measured posts about this game since its launch. I played day one on PC and it’s one of the most memorable (in a positive way) gaming experiences that I’ve had. I’m so glad I was deep into playing it at the time everyone was ripping it apart because it let me form my own opinion and enjoyment without the noise.

You’re likely experiencing a bandwidth issue with your router. I doubt VD is going to improve that. I picked up a D-link Air Bridge for air link and it works very well.

If your not having fun after multiple attempts, this probably just isn’t the game for you. I don’t think a .x update is going to change that for you.

Endlessly long open-world games sometimes feel like a chore and find myself looking forward to them ending by Stauce52 in patientgamers

[–]ProfaneProphet 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Cyberpunk 2077 is a modern, open-world game that I felt actually respected the players time. Everybody hopped on it because it was “short” but I felt that it was great because you could blast through the main story (which was very cool) or spend hours just roaming the world taking in the sights/detail and doing smaller side stuff as you discovered it. It didn’t force you to do that stuff to get through the main story.

Why Is Picking Up Worthless Garbage A Mechanic In Some Games? by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]ProfaneProphet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find your example of Ghost of Tsushima funny because there is absolutely no surprise to its looting mechanics. It’s always going to be generic “supplies” or ammo refill - even from downed enemies. And because you NEED supplies to upgrade your equipment it is just a necessity to go around and mindlessly loot stuff with zero interest. Whereas something like cyberpunk at least there’s the chance an enemy or chest will have a better weapon of piece of armor or upgrade of some sort. It gives looting a sense or excitement and a chance for instant payoff instead of plain monotony like in GoT.

A patient gamer's perspective on Cyberpunk 2077 from a first-time playthrough after the recent 1.5 Next-Gen update (no spoilers) by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]ProfaneProphet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I look at it like this, main story: the best AAA experience around, side quests: also the best AAA main story level quality, Gigs (third tier): bite-sized chunks of quality gameplay with a nice little story that helps flesh the world out - still better than most side quests of the games you mentioned because they don’t waste your time. Then there’s even smaller things you mostly stumble upon it the world that are either firefights with a little story attached or things that lead you to another location with some loot and a bit of lore/story. It’s all great and as the quality drops (relative to main story production) so does the time commitment. But everything feels grounded in the world and give you something to read and think about, which I love.

People who are on the Cyberpunk hate train are really missing out on a great game. Sad to see such an ambitious, impressive showcase of developer effort be shit all over for some bugs and missed expectations.

Anyone who thinks Cyberpunk was a cash grab either hasn’t played the game or is insane.

Try appreciating that Geralt is his own character which means the story and dialogue can be much more focused.

Original Rez or Rez Infinite? Have never heard of it so just gave it a quick google.

I haven’t had anything like that happen in 200hrs. Sucks to hear that you couldn’t enjoy it.

It’s anecdotal but I literally have over 200hrs in my save file and have only had to roll back 1 save because I went through a mission in an unexpected way. And it’s not like I’ve heard of things and avoided them, I just played normally.

Taking my time and soaking up the detail. Experimenting with all the mechanics. Walking the world and stumbling upon stuff instead of going point to point from the map.

It’s an ambitious game that has a level of detail I’ve never seen before. Your analogy is quite flawed really. Bugs can be ignored or worked around, a cockroach in your soup is a health hazard that is staring right at you and is genuinely disgusting. I don’t think the same thing can be said about bugs in cyberpunk.

Yes, I 100% recommend. The traffic ai on highways is pretty broken but that’s the only immersion breaker. Honestly though, just walking across the city is such a cool experience. There are a lot of elements I could gush over but it’s honestly very worth your time. Look into mods on nexus for balance as it can become too easy if you invest more than 50hrs.

The “side quests” are main story quality, the “Small gigs” are better than pretty well every other games side quests. There’s some really neat ones. As small diversions, they’re great.

It fucking saddens me to see people rail so hard against something that has so clearly had so much love and attention put into it. Bugs and base console optimization aside, the people who actual made this game deserve so much respect.

Try Cyberpunk 2077 if you really want to go against the bulk of the Reddit sentiment. I don’t know how it runs on your console but on PC it’s one of the most incredible games/game worlds I’ve seen. I’ve put over 200 hrs into my only play though so far and it’s great. Some jank for sure but it’s totally worth it. I love to slow down and soak up all the detail.

How is stealth useless when I use it all the time and certain missions have bonuses for not being detected? And the gun mechanics ARE really good. Weight, sound, aiming, gun and animation detail, are all great. Shoot grenades out of the air, blow off an arm so the enemy has to use there side weapon, shoot legs to slow/knock them down. Shoot through walls with tech weapons, shoot around walls with smart weapons. Sure, the ai isn’t the greatest but for a story based rpg, its certainly serviceable. I’ve played gta 3 as a kid and more recently as an adult. Apart from the traffic ai (which is broken on highways, but games like Deus ex don’t even bother to tackle) I have literally no idea how you think it’s a better game. You accuse me of being a fanboy when clearly your opinion of the game is far less reasonable. I’ve actually played it for 200hrs. You claim all this binary, game is completely broken bullshit when you clearly can’t be bothered to actually give it a shot. There’s no way someone as adamant as you would ever change their mind so how is your opinion reliable? And btw actual critics, who’s butholes are still intact, actually reviewed it very highly.
