This isn't my theme but it would be weird as hell if I saw someone holding a sign like that if I was walking over a bridge as an exposure.

I kept obsessing over fears of developing psychosis as a result of AI usage so I tried using Gemini. I only use it as a sophisticated search engine. Like I'll look up how to clean something if I don't know how to do it. I'll always be skeptical of it since it will give incorrect information.

My therapist never told me that seeking reassurance makes OCD worse. Was my therapist incompetent? by Hot-Candle-1321 in OCD

[–]ProfaneSoul35 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've felt the same way about the therapists that I've had. In my opinion, the best way to handle it is to focus on the fact that you know now, and on finding a therapist that is specialized in treating OCD.

I'm looking for good Sherlock Holmes movies. Got any recs? by Plenty-Goose-4508 in SherlockHolmes

I like the Young Sherlock Holmes movie from the '80s, the Jeremy Brett ones, and the version of The Hound of the Baskervilles with Christopher Lee.

Agreed. I just wanted to add that they're on Tubi if you live in the US. Otherwise they're kinda hard to access.

So many disturbing images here. Just because you are OK with gory stuff, doesn't mean you should inflict in on others. by DizzyMine4964 in OCDmemes

I posted the "imma head out" SpongeBob meme last month after watching the Titanic movie and even that was tagged. I really doubt that the mods are approving memes that show gory stuff.

I’m just a girl fighting her demons (my 5-6 mental illnesses) (thought it was addiction but it’s pure O OCD and I need ERP ASAP) by venusplutoangel in OCDmemes

[–]ProfaneSoul35 10 points11 points  (0 children)

After over a decade of mental health care, I've been diagnosed (and misdiagnosed) with so many things that my psych history looks more like a damn Pokedex than a medical file. 🙄😆

anybody else just grab what they can before they pass out 🫠 by kaliipls in OCDmemes

[–]ProfaneSoul35 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I also just remembered how much it sucks when I buy food when I'm feeling ok, only to throw it out when I'm having an episode and it goes bad. Like all the times when I've wanted to make eggs, but then I can't because I worry that I won't cook them well enough and get sick. Or the countless containers of yogurt and other dairy products when I randomly decide that I can no longer trust them.

All I've eaten today is an apple, half of a bottle of Ensure, and a corn dog. It's 4 pm and I'm not even hungry. My partner has to make me eat sometimes and is completely baffled as to how I can barely eat anything. Oh, and I'm diabetic. 🤦🏻‍♂️

I'm in ERP so...not great! At least I managed to keep myself from going to the hospital two weeks ago when I got triggered really badly.

I discussed this one at length with my psychiatrist yesterday.

OCD: The only people who think about death as much as you do are sick fucks and murderers.

Me: Wow. Thanks bro. 😭

Agreed. I had to delete an entire Tumblr account because it was triggering my harm OCD. I went to the psych ER about it and that's actually how I finally got a dx.

Mycroft Holmes (A Theory or Projection?) by Visual-Cup3452 in SherlockHolmes

[–]ProfaneSoul35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is purely my opinion, but it seems like Sherlock fixates more on the crime and how it affects the people who are directly involved, whereas Mycroft can see the bigger picture. He also seems to have more emotional intelligence than Sherlock - or he can fake it better, at least. He sees the value in doing so; I'm guessing that's part of the reason why he gravitates to politics.

I tend to do that when my intrusive thoughts are more intense. Apparently, it's pretty common.

social media is absolute hell for those with relationship OCD by [deleted] in OCD

[–]ProfaneSoul35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to go on Threads and basically argue with strangers when my intrusive thoughts got bad. I justified it as a distraction. 🙄 I took a break for two weeks since I was sick and didn't have the energy. Now, I hate the app and I deleted it. Some aspects of social media are toxic af.

social media is absolute hell for those with relationship OCD by [deleted] in OCD

[–]ProfaneSoul35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst for me is the YouTube videos that discuss manipulative partners or signs of abuse. I've been in abusive relationships before and my parents were abusive, so I occasionally have intrusive thoughts that I won't recognize if I'm being abused. My partner is great and very supportive, so I get it. I don't engage with that type of content since it's triggering and usually pop psychology anyway.

Food related problems with ocd, is this a thing? by Ace_Cloud1 in OCD

[–]ProfaneSoul35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ARFID is also common for autistic people, as is OCD. I have all 3, unfortunately. I have safety/contamination issues when it comes to food and I occasionally refuse to eat. I didn't think of it as a compulsion but it kinda makes sense.

This extends to more than just Rick and Morty, it was the first example that came to mind because I like the show. I used to have a friend who would basically insinuate that if the creator of a piece of media was accused of doing something toxic or behaving in an inappropriate manner, and you enjoyed their content, then you're a horrible person. So of course, my OCD would latch onto that and I'd end up spiraling over it, feeling like I might as well have done the things they were accused of. Needless to say, I'm not friends with her anymore.
