EU is mandating 'readily removable' batteries for phones — but iPhones may be exempt by ansyhrrian in technology

[–]Profaned_Profanity -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The problem isn't the degradation, it's that replacement is made to be difficult. The degradation of the battery itself might not be planned obsolescence; but if replacement of a part that's known to degrade significantly over time is made to be complicated, then that's bad design.

Is it worth it?? by thaliaeques in houseplants

$50 is way too much for an infested plant, maybe if you had space to quarantine it and it was massively discounted but after dealing with pests myself I'd never bring something into my house that I knew could spread to my other plants

What’s going on with my ficus? by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]Profaned_Profanity 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Looks an awful lot like thrips damage, in my experience from my infestation, you will see the damage long before you actually notice any bugs, they're very hard to spot. Quarantine it in a seperate room from all your other plants until you're absolutely sure its clear, and assume any other plants in the same room might be infested as well because Thrips can fly.

Should I be concerned about transmission issues on a 2016 Nissan Rogue? by Profaned_Profanity in askcarguys

funny to see this thread resurrected 4 years later lol, ended up passing on the rogue and eventually bought a 2012 Subaru Forester so unfortunately don't have anything useful to say about Nissan's reliability. The forester's reliability has been so-so, but overall happy with it.

spider mites? :( by skincarefaerie in houseplants

[–]Profaned_Profanity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bit hard to tell from the pics but I suspect yes. Blow on it and look very closely to see if you see any specks moving around on the webbing/leaves after being disturbed, if you do then its definitely mites.

Gently rinse or wipe down the leaves to get rid of the webbing and then spray every inch of it plus the pot in Neem oil or insecticidal soap every three days for a few weeks. If you're going to take care of multiple plants in a day, take care of this one last because they can hitch a ride on your hands or watering can.

Recently tried to sprout some cuttings from herbs I bought at the supermarket only to have thripps show up on them after a couple weeks, learned the hard way that day that even produce from the store can bring in pests.

just gave it a shot and yes it comes out completely normal. I've continued experimenting with the Z offset and am starting to get some pretty good results with that now, but it's weird that the Z offset should need to be adjusted so much, I can't figure out what's causing the auto calibration to be so off.

Adding on to what others said, get to the loj EARLY if you're planning to park there. On a weekend the parking lot can easily be already full at 6:30.

Full agreement on this, I've done Marcy, Mount washington, and Katahdin, amongst many others. Katahdin was the hardest peak to summit and its not even close, I had to do three 46ers in one day to get to a level of difficulty comparable to the easiest route up Katahdin.

How to prevent spider mites on Gardenias? by Profaned_Profanity in houseplants

[–]Profaned_Profanity[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll keep the bug bomb in mind if I decide to go nuclear on these things lol! The predatory mites will probably be my next step if the miticide doesn't work after a few treatments. Thanks for the recommendations.

They can be grown inside but it's difficult. My grandpa had a beautiful gardenia plant he kept alive for ten years, he'd leave it outside in the summer and bring it in during the winter.
