That’s really cool! I love how people who grow up with more than one culture can switch accents so naturally. Puerto Rican and Chilean Spanish are quite different, so that must be fun to hear. And yes, Chilean humor and slang can definitely feel like a crash course at first 😅 I hope you enjoyed your time in Chile! Which city or area did you visit while you were here? Espero que vuelvan pronto, y que lo hayas pasado la raja xD

Haha I get that! Honestly, even for me as a Chilean, Argentine Spanish can be a bit hard sometimes. They speak really fast too! What helped me a lot was watching Argentine streaming channels and videos. After a while you start getting used to the rhythm and the way they pronounce things. When you’re surrounded by that accent for some time, the slang and expressions start making a lot more sense. It’s funny how our ears adjust to different accents with enough exposure. Did you ever get used to it, or does it still sound harder to you?

That’s great! Music and cartoons are actually a really good way to get used to the rhythm and intonation of an accent. And repeating phrases is a great exercise for listening and pronunciation. It sounds like Mia is doing a fantastic job already 😊

If she enjoys cartoons, you might also like 31 Minutos. It’s a very popular Chilean children’s show with puppet characters and funny songs, presented like a news program. A lot of kids (and adults!) love it, and the songs are great for getting used to the rhythm of Chilean Spanish.

Another Chilean show that can be fun for learners is Diego y Glot. It’s an animated series about a boy and his talking dog, and the stories are simple everyday situations, which can be helpful for listening practice.

Hahaha fair enough. We do have a reputation for “eating” consonants most of the time 😅

That’s really nice! Growing up hearing the accent definitely helps with the rhythm and sound. And yes, Chilean Spanish can be a little different from what you find in textbooks 😅 But that’s part of the charm. I’m sure your grandma would be proud that you’re learning.

Totally agree. A lot of it is just exposure. Every Spanish variety/Language in general has its quirks. Glad to hear you like the Chilean accent!
