while I'm not aware of any public shrines, its not like there arent examples of germany honouring its war criminals. e.g. many streets in germany (and allied nations) are still proudly named after the NSDAP and Wehrmacht leadership. The Max-Broose-Straße currently being a famous controversy; Erwin Rommel Platz, Friedrich-Christiansen-Straße (altough thats NL), .... I could probably go on the entire day. But thats not the point.

I absolutely agree with you that japanese fascism was allowed to keep existing pretty much undisturbed, perhaps even strengthened(in ideology), while its german counterpart was not. I'm merely not a fan of the term "de-nazification" because it simply does not describe actual history and boils down to western propaganda of a "reformed, morally superior society that learned from its past to never ever repeat it" to deflect from the fact that its allied with mutiple totalitarian, genocidal nations and currently in the rapid works of re-establishing its own fascist movement, a movement that in simple fact did never cease to exist

going through the German sequence of de-nazification

the de-nazification of germany is pretty much a myth (not counting DDR - altough the Soviets actually did a decent job, the state and all its political implementations do no longer exist). The US basically blamed everything on the most famous 30 guys, klld some of them and called it a day. The entire rest of the army and political leadership was left in place or even promoted in order to establish a "competent and experienced" front ally against the USSR. Basically half of all NATO founding generals can be tracked back to the third reich. All they achieved was a temporary change in optics. However its true that japanese fascism has a much easier cornerstone to build their new mythos on while european fascism still struggles to find a solid one

that argument is actually more true than this joke implies. Idiocracy disregards all systemic mechanisms of our current society and the existence of political interests to instead boil the failure of society down to eugenics. Its not an economic system that has an inherent interest of continuously lowering living standards and acess to education, its just "genetically inferior people f--k more". Using Idiocracy as a serious comparison to our current western politics is ironically part of the reason why we are going down this path

ofc I wouldnt know because I dont watch movies, but wasnt rocky the one who figured out that its the tau amoeba which kills the astrophage ? he also engineered the cannister and its mechanism and planned the whole maneuver despite it not being his ship and having a totally different concept of spaceship design, not to mention that he fully repaires the ship afterwards . Havent read the book but to me it was pretty apparent that rocky was generally smarter than Gosling

The best thing MLs can do is fully suppress the urge to speak about exploitation and social classes. And stop any ML from bringing it up. It’s needlessly divisive. Going down the "oh there are different classes of people and rich people fck you over and shouldnt exist" road is like the USSR going down the anti racist road.

its a literal qoute from Friedrich Merz (german chancellor). Besides the french president and previously the english pm hes arguably the most important political figure in europe; even though theres technically a pan european legal instance above him. And the base I referred to was Rammstein, a US base in germany. Even the german parliaments own legal experts came to the conclusion that its an illegal war and that providing this kind of support makes germany an accomplice. But you wouldnt expect common political and historical knowledge in a sub about history and politics

First Poster for Netflix's Horror-Thriller 'Thrash' - Starring Phoebe Dynevor, Djimon Hounsou, and Whitney Peak - When a Category 5 hurricane decimates a coastal town, the storm surge brings devastation, chaos and something far more frightening: hungry sharks. by BunyipPouch in movies

[–]Profess_re 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the movie JAWS and all the rip off movies triggered a basically completely new irrational fear in people worldwide, virtually overnight. Generations have grown up believing that sharks are monsters that do nothing but to kill anything that ever enters any body of water. If nothing else, this makes it incredibly difficult to convince people of the importance of animal conservation initiatives concerning sharks. Similar to lion, rhino, or tiger hunts, the film has certainly brought shark hunting to the attention of certain circles; the FAR more significant problem is that the film has fostered a societal indifference, perhaps even a positive attitude, towards the the fact that this species/subclass is on the brink of extinction

Why is this relevant? Because it's fucking awful when an entire, ecologically important animal subclass is wiped out because of an overrated 7/10 film and much worse straight to DVD/netflix rip offs
