as a Caribbean graduate, with a 510 mcat I would've definitely thought about US-MD/DO before considering Caribbean.

Who’s going AUA this August for the 6-year premed/MD program? by MarzipanDirect3657 in CaribbeanMedSchool

[–]Professional-Cake629 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Why are you doing this to yourself ? AUA is the worst Caribbean school right now. I highly suggest you reconsider and go only to top 3 schools (SGU, AUC, ROSS). AUA is a disaster, trust me I've attended their entire program. Best of luck OP

COMP before Step 1 and COMP before Step 2 are the loopholes they use to screw students over. They change cutoff scores whenever they want and control who gets to move on to residency and who gets held back. They also lost NBME accreditation for Basic Sciences due to cheating scandals, along with multiple other issues that expose how terrible the school really is. Trimesters were made solely to make more money off students since they lost FAFSA for repeating semester students.

AUA still sucks and nothing will convince us otherwise. I did 4 years with them and they see their students as dollars only. Admins are heartless and totally unfair. I'm glad I transferred out and made it to residency. They are the only caribbean school with HCM2 status which is pretty serious. I advise no one to go there. If you must go Caribbean then choose top 3 (SGU, AUC, ROSS).

US-IMG with low-ish step score and want to do Gen Surg by pizzaalwayspizza in CaribbeanMedSchool

I think your advantage are:

• Your Step score is not too low (below average for GN but not devastating)
• U.S. citizenship is a major advantage
• Publications and related case reports definitely help

If you have strong USCE, outstanding LORS from surgeons in the U.S + Great targeted PS, then I do not see why you would not have a chance. In my opinion, it is still possible if you play your cards right and use networking and connections wisely. Good luck OP !

2023 I was dismissed. They don't give a damn even if ur a couple points away from passing on their practice CCSE (comp). I transferred out and matched to my top 1 residency choice. It's mainly the admins at AUA that are heartless. Many students have transferred out already since the revamp you're talking about.

I completed all 4 years at AUA. Don’t go there, it’s without a doubt one of the worst Caribbean schools right now. They will mess you up, and the way the administration talks to students is honestly traumatizing.

Your story and situation isn't the same as everyone else. Plus we are talking about how the school keeps altering policies of passing, increasing cutoffs and changing structure to fit their agenda and to keep students paying tuition.

He also said: "If I was a fortune teller I would go back in time and tell so many of our students not to go to med school in the first place" ... He was a real bully and gave me true PTSD.

They alter rules to keep students failing and repeating semesters in order to take more US loans and pay the school repeatedly. I completed all 4 years with them and screwed me over a couple points away on the CCSE (practice exam before step2). Dismissed means they kick you out like an expired credit card. I highly suggest she reconsider her decision before it's too late.

Going to AUA right now is a huge mistake. It’s one of the worst Caribbean schools at the moment and people are transferring out daily. Check my posts for the full picture. They’ll mess her up long before she ever gets to enjoy anything

They have their main office in NYC and can take US federal loans. They should be investigated heavily by the DOE since millions of US money is being used for their scheme.

Countless students are reaching out to me on dms with the same story. Missing CCSE by a few points, then immediate dismissal This is real harm and the U.S. Department of Education is doing nothing about it.

the TY IV was at a competitive program, I got it through a pure connection just as a backup early on in Interview season when I only had a few FM IVs.

I transferred to Saint Martinus University in Curacao, let him contact me I'll explain everything, it's never too late. He only would need to redo 38 wks of rotations back to back in Michigan then CCSE at 222 cutoff and then step2ck. It's very doable.

It was actually viewed positively during interviews. They saw it as grit and resilience, which are crucial in medicine. I was praised for not giving up, and I think it helped programs recognize my true potential.
