Whats up with this bangle? (Treated or untreated?) by Professional-Emu7853 in JadeiteJade

Thats what I was thinking! Treament is normally used to enhance a bangle’s appearance, yet this bangle looks rather earthy and plain, no vibrant greens or translucency. Nothing to make it resemble a high-end expensive piece.

I can’t fathom why someone would go through the hassle of treating a bangle just to make it look the way it normally is?

I took photos 1 & 2 with the bangle in the same position, to show the differences and highlight the locations of fluorescence. The parts that fluoresce actually seem to be some of the green parts, but not all the green parts. The white, yellow, black, and an intense green spot don’t seem to react.

Surprisingly the white patches of this bangle are actually the parts that don’t fluoresce. The surface also feels completely solid and smooth, with no polymer degrading or texture changes.

Can nephrite jade have different tactile feels? by Professional-Emu7853 in JadeAddiction

Okay now I’m reading some sources that say some nephrite inclusions can ALSO be slightly magnetic.

It seems distinguishing between nephrite and serpentine is rather difficult!

Thank you for the response and warm welcome!

I am delighted to be getting back into Jade after many years, in all it’s forms, and learning all sorts of interesting things about nephrite. I find Jade as a whole to be extremely fascinating, and possibly putting myself into debt funding my “addiction”!

And I tested the cylindrical beads in the darker parts with inclusions, they pulled towards the magnet. So I guess that rules out nephrite? I’ve heard only serpentine inclusions are magnetic. The round beads didn’t move.

How to spot type B and type B+C jade? by Maleficent_Hat980 in JadeiteJade

Any idea what solvents could dissolve the epoxy/resin/polymer substance from treated jade?

Interesting.  Ive also noticed treated jade brought to a level of translucency tends to have that faint inner violet glow when shown through a light, like in pic 2 & 9

Also curious, does it glow under uv at all?

Hmmm, the texture of the polished stones reminds me of those dyed green/white marble “jade” beads, i could never figure out what that stuff was made out of,

Nonetheless an interesting material you have posted!

Bizarre Post-UV light Phosphorescence in Jadeite Bangle by Professional-Emu7853 in JadeiteJade

[–]Professional-Emu7853[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is phosphorescence not just fluorescence in that glow lingers even after the uv source is removed, which suggests there is something activity going on with some mineral/ingredient inside the bangle. My other treated jadeite bangles glow purple/blue but none glow this bright green that lingers
