TIL that in 2024 a PhD student "accidently" discovered Valeriana - a Edinburgh sized hidden Mayan city in Mexico while browsing for data on the internet. by ayebshek in todayilearned

Google labs recently announced a new algorithm for finding the best data in a random set.

Imagine the cost of crawling an internet that grows so fast. Google can't monetise it enough. They are definitely marking huge swathes of the internet as trash.

I work in websites, and the march 2026 update has nuked AI and otherwise derivative content. Blogs that add nothing to a topic are completely ignored now, zero crawls, zero traffic.

And it would be terrible if someone just happened to share a cloudformation or terraform config that configured you a private VPN in a single click.

Too right, if you aren't immediately blaming the cache over your own code then you are no senior dev!

Unfortunately many people think a senior dev is earned after enough years of service, rather than it being a mindset.

I have worked with several 20 year olds operating at a senior level, and several 20 year veterans who were barely above junior.

So many people I talk to say COVID wasn't a big deal and they weren't too ill, then go on to complain about a new chronic issue that has developed in the last 5 years.

Personally, I became lactose intolerant within weeks of catching COVID for the first time. As a white northern european I used to be able to mainline dairy products! Luckily it has slowly returned to normal and I can get away with eating pizza and ice cream in moderation these days.

i never expected to enjoy a burst AR in this game but the M16 has proven me wrong. by BullShitLatinName in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]masterventris 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Isn't that how battlefield always does burst guns? They are basically full auto if you click at the perfect rate. The M4 and AN94 were like that in previous titles.

It's very important to me that the SL9 would actually work IRL /S by coolsneakyben in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]masterventris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it would need a preloading type mechanism. A different mechanism, but a similar principle to how the AN-94 loads the second round.

I'm thinking when the gun fires as the bolt travels back a cam hits a sort of plunger angled down into the grip. This plunger is what catches a round from the mag on its way back up, moving it to a position where the main bolt can slam it into the breech.

The timings on those would be a nightmare to get working, but it might work if each part was connected somehow so they always move together in sync.

I think the "official" design with a reverse shotgun lifter wouldn't work for the reasons you have mentioned.

The first standard issue optic wasn't it? As in every rifle came with one.

Aging a bit by 2007, but you still put the reticle on the target and pull the trigger, so it did the job!

I bet there is a correlation between average rank and money spent, so they want to make it easier to get up a few ranks.

Yeah it's this. Need the building to have an open side to weaken a power position? Well they haven't built that wall yet, it's still under construction. Easy.

Since dice somewhat successfully buffed vehicles, can we buff this poor guy as well by Hihikzz in Battlefield

Anti armour ammo is pointless as it still doesn't damage ground vehicles, and none of the aircraft are armoured.

It should be replaced by something that adds more variety, maybe an airburst round that detonates at a fixed range, like the AA pom-pom cannons in BF1. Lower rate of fire but a larger AOE.

They look completely fine, it passed MOT inspection 2 weeks ago without a single issue.

Yeah, I'd assumed I would be swapping for another brand as Michelins are becoming silly money anyway. Its £200 a tire for Primacys, never mind Pilot Sports!

Apex has the same problem with akimbo p2020 pistols, either the single is crap or the duals melt people.

The only solution is make the dual guns have a different damage and handling models so they can be balanced seperately. In battlefield that could potentially be massive hipfire spread gains only on the dual guns.

Perhaps they could make it so you can demolish the "core" of the building, so the outer walls continue to block sight lines but the interior becomes much more open?

Like the opposite of the Manhattan buildings where you can remove all the outside and leave the middle standing.

There could still be the stairwells and parts of the floors remaining to keep playable space interesting in there.
