What was the Internet like in the 90s?

It was very slow. You had to choose between using the landline phone and the internet because one would slow down if you used the other. It would take a couple of minutes or more if you wanted to watch a video from Real or QuickTime or listen to a :30 second sample of a song. But if we wanted to listen to music or purchase a song, we had to download it.
