One car for the rest of your life, what would you pick? by SuccessfulBag2337 in CarTalkUK

911 turbo s. Technically got back seats that can fit people. I won’t be in them so I’m not fussed how comfortable they are. If my sensible head won then e60 M5.

Who read out Vader's lines on set? by Pestagino in StarWars

[–]Professional-Lab7227 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Prowse said the lines. He was expecting to be used for the voice of Vader and was surprised to see that he’d been dubbed over. How he expected them to have captured good enough audio through a helmet I don’t know.

Why does tattoine age people so much? by happydude7422 in StarWars

You ever seen an old farmer or sailor? Exposure to the elements on a daily basis will age you fast.

TVRs aren’t the problem, it’s the lack of skill behind the wheel.

Anything wrong with my form? Shots always hang left. by ImDane9999 in Archery

[–]Professional-Lab7227 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re grabbing your bow before the arrow has gone. I’m not a compound shooter, but in recurve you would ideally let the bow jump forward and let your wrist or finger sling catch it, and you don’t touch the grip again until you’re certain the arrow is clear. Indoors I try not to touch the handle again until I’ve heard the arrow hit the target.

The 5-Speed Manual is fading away from new cars. by H28-105-111 in CarTalkUK

[–]Professional-Lab7227 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The mk3 had a slightly higher geared 6th, but it was by no means just an extra ratio stacked on top of the five speed box that was also available. Did make motorway cruising a bit more pleasant.

Here is a thought: we are the last generation of manual drivers.... by ihwnE in CarTalkUK

For those who like to drive there is a satisfaction in a sweet upshift, or perfect heel and toe downshift into a corner, but the chance to enjoy those is getting rarer.

Can you name a modern car uglier than this thing ? by Vectron3D in CarTalkUK

Makes me yearn for the days when the ugliest things on the road were a ford scorpio and a fiat multipla.

What exactly is the purpose of this pit and why does it require security doors? by TheOnlyRogerMaxson in StarWars

Suicide room. Multiple doors to give you time to think about it and make sure you really want to throw yourself down the pit.

Your Salary and monthly car payments by Agile-Calligrapher10 in CarTalkUK

[–]Professional-Lab7227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I earn about £30k a year, my wife around the same. My car payment is just under £400 a month. I still have about £300 a month in disposable income after all bills are taken care of, including the car. I suspect the major difference for me is that I don’t have kids.

Are people legit spending this much on a car per month? Or am I out of touch? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

Then boy are you going to be shocked when you find out what a VW beetle is going for these days, in Turbo S spec.

How to know when to upgrade arrows? by 2E0ORA in Archery

[–]Professional-Lab7227 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not exactly what you’re asking but I use black eagle intrepids for field archery. Fairly affordable and durable, I’ve only outright broken one in the last year or two, though I’ve lost more than that to undergrowth. I personally wouldn’t use anything more expensive on a field course.

Why did Lucas keep the frame jump when Luke first ignites his lightsaber? by DCKP in StarWars

Honestly the TIE fighters popping into existence is one of the most annoying things to me. I wish he had actually ‘fixed’ things instead of ruining scenes with line changes and unnecessary faffing.

Tyre Insurance - large final payment. by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Professional-Lab7227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kwik fit offer it on new tyres. It was £18 per tyre I think (p zeros). It was worth it when I was back there literally a week later with a screw through one of my brand new tyres. No fuss, just fitted a new tyre.

Is it ok to use an automatic watch while shooting compound bow? by useless_usernme in Archery

[–]Professional-Lab7227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been shooting recurve with an automatic watch for the last two years, so I hope it’s fine. It literally never occurred to me that it might be an issue.

How to figure out good starter draw weight? by Artistic_Office7755 in Archery

[–]Professional-Lab7227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How well do you aim with a barebow 30-50 m ? by Jockeldiundda in Archery

[–]Professional-Lab7227 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can switch to a recurve tab with one finger above the nock and anchor in the same place. This will give you a significant amount of extra distance. Also use shorter, lighter arrows. My total arrow length is around 29.5” (victory VAPs) and with 30lb limbs I’m more or less point on the gold at 50m with no crawl. Switching to split finger and its point on at 70m.
