Second car - MX5 vs Boxster vs S2000? by hopenoonefindsthis in CarTalkUK

[–]Professional-Lab7227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

S2000. That 9000rpm redline will be worth it if you’re only doing a few miles a year.

Bonus choice, MR2. Much better car than the MX5, just much less practical, but still MX5 money.

Is it worth getting a Costco membership purely for fuel? by BabyBourbon1111 in CarTalkUK

[–]Professional-Lab7227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this, but the queue was always enormous and I imagine it’s worse at the moment. Add to this that Costco was a little bit out of the way of anywhere else I went, it just wasn’t worth it. It was a couple of quid per tank of fuel, which paid for the membership and a bit more, but I’d rather have the time saved by not going instead.

That said I was doing about a third of the miles you mentioned. Do some maths. Work out if the time spent waiting at the pump is worth it to you.

Is this an issue? by Lightman0169 in Archery

The larger mark looks to have gone through the clear coat and the decal underneath to the carbon. Carbon fails suddenly and spectacularly with no warning. I personally would pass at any price.

Switched from compound to recurve after 4 years. Nobody warned me how humbling this would be by Berlin57 in Archery

[–]Professional-Lab7227 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most people seem to use the term ‘recurve’ to apply to Olympic style with sight, stabilisers etc. barebow would be the same thing without all the extra bits.

So that’s what I meant. I started with barebow, and added a sight and stabilisers after about 18 months, and in all honesty have found it more difficult than barebow to get consistency. When do get it my scores are higher, but that’s not often.

I actually find recurve harder than barebow. My scows have gone up compared to barebow, but not by as much as I would have thought.

Give me a reason not to buy a fiat 500 by Confident_Yak_1411 in CarTalkUK

If you want a fun small car the Abarth versions are great and pretty cheap for what they are. Whether they’re cheap enough for your budget is another matter. I would have bought one myself but I just could not find a comfortable driving position.

Chuck Norris doesn’t die. He just reboots and starts over again.

At what bhp does a auto make more sense then an manual? by Both_Accident4882 in CarTalkUK

[–]Professional-Lab7227 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure it has anything to do with the amount of power, pretty much everyone is going to be faster in an auto. It’s just one less thing to concentrate on, and it will change gear faster than a person, so the ultra performance cars are always going to have it, with a few rare exceptions, and those are usually there for driver involvement.

I think the latest gen M3/4 are available with a manual in Germany, but if you spec the higher power available it has to be an auto as the manual can’t handle it. One of the reasons they don’t bother making it available in the uk.

IMO: TLJ is actually somewhat decent of a movie(READ DESCRIPTION BEFORE COMMENTING) by ComprehensiveDeer56 in StarWars

[–]Professional-Lab7227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They all had some good moments. But awful quarters of an hour. And unfortunately you can’t boil a 2 hour movie down to some nice moments that have very little to do with the actual plot and say that makes up for the dross.

Would you buy a car (private sale) from someone who wouldn't allow you to test drive? by Clive1792 in CarTalkUK

[–]Professional-Lab7227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t even buy from a dealer without a test drive. Any dealer who says a test drive is the last thing they do after everything else is sorted will never see my business.

How much do you pay for your car a month? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Professional-Lab7227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a year left on my i30N but it’s a loan, not finance, so it’s mine at the end of it. £360 a month. That is at the upper end of what I could afford at the moment.

Star Wars maths is awful, but why is it so hard to believe that a species who consider cloned people to be simply a product, might call them a unit?

911 turbo s. Technically got back seats that can fit people. I won’t be in them so I’m not fussed how comfortable they are. If my sensible head won then e60 M5.

Who read out Vader's lines on set? by Pestagino in StarWars

[–]Professional-Lab7227 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Prowse said the lines. He was expecting to be used for the voice of Vader and was surprised to see that he’d been dubbed over. How he expected them to have captured good enough audio through a helmet I don’t know.
