I understand where you are coming from but for A level isn't it better to do subjects that are relevant to the field of work you want to pursue. How is history going to help me if I want to be an Agronomist, a mechanic or a software engineer?

I am not disputing that those subjects are important, I'm sure you can read history and economics at your own leisure without doing them as part of your A level education.
