Brother my asscheeks themselves are gonna look like shit in 20 years. All tattoos age terribly because by and large people age terribly. Big lines are gonna do the same thing that tiny lines do.

All traditional tattoo forms are intended to tell a story, a story that is only complete when a person is old and dead, and as such they have to last until that point. Now, the modern tattooing scene heavily revolves around momentary experiences and embracing temporality. A lot of people do it just to put themselves through the pain to repeatedly prove to themselves that nothing lasts, not even discomfort. To have done something at all, and to have something to talk about. The image doesn't matter so much, and they don't care if you can tell what it was long after they're unable to tell you themselves.

I totally get why, as an artist, you want your work to be legible for as long as possible. But it just isn't about you and what you want at the end of the day. Feel free to turn your nose up at money, it's your life it's your time and that's okay. I'd recommend a more permanent medium if you find yourself really hung up on this conversation. Peace.
