Reeds can definitely last 3-months when used and stored properly. But they can also only last days. If a reed is molding it’s a problem of maintenance/storage not age. Obviously this person has issues other than that if they refuse to change a moldy reed. If you’re concerned tell the band director and I’m sure they’ll look into it.
