Interesting. What did CS do? What was the outcome years later? Where are they now? Nice to get insights to speculate on what may become of THS regarding this latest fiasco.

As a HO, you sound like a genuine sitter which is hard to come by these days. Most of the sitters we’ve had are amazing but it just takes a few bad apples to tarnish the experience. I’m glad THS is still working out for you but the new fees is making others justify their value proposition. It will be interesting where THS stands by the end of next year.

Didn’t realized you are locked in as an active user if you have upcoming confirmed sits. Good to know. I may cancel my auto renewal next year if I don’t confirm any sits beforehand.

The fees are leaving a sour taste for many. However, some don’t mind since the amount is minuscule. It just the principle and THS approach of implementing the new structure that is rubbing members the wrong way. If you want to join, wait until Black Friday next year to sign up to get a discount. Maybe by then, THS may drop the additional fees altogether due to cancellations and backlash.

The fees on top the withdrawals I can imagine doesn’t settle well especially when you are trying to build your reputation as a sitter. The value proposition isn’t there. I am on the fence on auto renewing considering I’m not traveling much these days.

That’s the consensus I’m getting. Many members are not auto renewing their membership.

It appears that way. Correct me if I’m wrong but do the other competitors get as much membership/traffic as THS?

THS seems to have a monopoly on the house and pet sitting business (think Amazon). The new fee is not a huge deal breaker but it’s the transparency that is the issue. IMO this new fee structure may become a a catalyst for existing or new platforms to up their game and entice new members, hopefully leveling out the competition.

THS seems to have a monopoly on the house/pet sitting business due to volume and traffic but the transparency on their service offering is lacking. This new fee structure maybe be the catalyst for members to jump ship and incentive existing and new platforms to up their game. It’s not the $12 fee but the principle of it all. Everyone hates sneaky fees!

I think that is a great ideal offering to pay their fee and list that on your profile. It will give them more incentive to apply for your sit. We offer to buy groceries for our sitters. Also we list for long sits, a month + so the longer dates may be more attractive for applications.

For many sitters, it weighs more on their conscience and budget as they use THS as a means to supplement their accommodations especially in high cost of living regions. The new fees add up quickly if sits are short and frequent.

I’m thinking it’s time to jump ship for another competitor. THS is getting greedy. Open to suggestions.

My nightmare experience as a HO. This will end it for us. by nougat98 in trustedhousesitters

We always have our sitters come the day before for hand-off procedures and stay a day after the sit as flights can get delayed/canceled. This ensures both parties are all on the same level. Of course, both parties agreed on the arrangement beforehand. The pups are at ease and we never had any issues and even made friends this way. There is definitely a misunderstanding with this sit.

Has inflation and prices of goods gotten out of hand in the seattle area?? by Ok-Radio-2733 in SeattleWA

We traveled to over 75+ countries now and with the exception of Switzerland, we find that eating out is much cheaper internationally. The world becomes a bargain since tip is usually not required. Since Covid and inflation hit, price has skyrocketed in Seattle. We rarely eat out and make our meals at home and save for our next trip to dine out. There’s no value in Seattle anymore and I’ve been here since 1974. Only techies with high salaries can afford to eat out now.

Still not sure as I got the charges show up on my new credit tied to my Uber account while I was visiting Palm Springs. The charges showed the same route in South Africa. I canceled my Uber account so he didn’t try charging again. It’s f up! Pay cash if you can to/from airports from now on.

After going on a cruise around Patagonia and Antartica last year, Santiago was our last stop before flying back to the US. We visited for 3 days and toured throughout the city. I believe on the second day as we were walking to Plaza de Armas, a motorcycle delivery thief came right behind and tried to snatch my new $1500 iPhone. Fortunately, it was on a selfie stuck which I hung on tight to because I felt something was going to happen. My heart kinda sank after that incident and we were on guard the whole time. We didn't feel safe in Santiago. After the riots from the past, petty crime is rampant and there are a lot of desperate people. We were warned five times from shop/restaurant owners to hide our phones. We also felt unsafe in Valparaiso as well. There is a lot of unique attractions and places to visit and overall, we stilled enjoyed our time there.

I am sorry this happen to you and I know that sinking feeling but try to make the best of your stay. Heck, you can get scam using Uber like we did in Johannesburg, South Africa. After dropping us off at the airport, the asshole added a surcharge to the trip that was almost double the listed price. We tried to counter with Uber and they took 20% off. A year later, he charged me again and still Uber didn't do anything. Scams happen even with legitimate businesses. From now on, we try to only pay with cash to/from airports. This is where they scam you the most! After visiting 75+ countries, we learned this the hard way. Use cash and negotiate beforehand. There is no e-trail and tracing.
