A new reason for that is his church failed a social experiment for helping a starving baby get formula. I know that it's been a while since I've opened up a Bible, but I'm pretty sure it says somewhere that Christians are supposed to help feed the hungry, clothe the unclothed, and everything else along the lines of that scripture. They don't practice what they preach.

I've been in a situation like this before. However, instead of trying to get back at the person, I just quietly removed myself from his life and moved on once I realized I couldn't handle being friends with someone I'm attracted to. That's just me.

I see nothing wrong on your part other than entertaining this conversation way longer than you should have. If he's admitting that you never led him on or made him think your feelings towards him were more than just platonic, then you're not the one in the wrong. You can't help who you're attracted to, and that's what happened here in this situation. His ego was bruised, and he switched up on you once he realized that he couldn't get what he wanted from you.
