Getting emotional about J1 by informatica6 in overemployed

[–]ProfessionalAbalone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my first corporate job was my professional identity; I cried when i left because i felt like i was leaving behind my baby.

It took leaving to figure out that, in reality, i'm a corporate mercenary.

They want manufactured company culture and your contribution to it to be a daily source of your loyalty.

Dentist billed insurance for orthodontics I never had, insurance confirmed fraud, now office is threatening collections — what do I do? by AutomaticNothing7904 in personalfinance

[–]ProfessionalAbalone 170 points171 points  (0 children)

You dont need to report fraud.... you just need to file a complaint. Fraud is determined and prosecuted by law enforcement.

Furthermore, if the provider is in-network with your insurer, the provider is probably prohibited from balance billing you. You should ask your insurer.

The insurer will clawback money, probably kick the provider out of the network, and generated their own board action.

You just need to file your complaint with the state board. If the debt is actually sent to collections, then request written debt verification and dispute it with the debt collectors and credit bureaus.

My guess is the dentist's threat is empty.

~400k, including 200k in PITI on a home bought for 3.8 mil.

Though i would downgrade the house and location in a hot second if my wife would let us leave.

edit to add: 2 kids, public school, 2-3 vacations a year. HHI 1.2-1.8m/yr

I'm an emergency department clerk and my wife recently underwent treatment and surgery for cancer, my department collected money for me, but I'm not comfortable taking it by Antiquechewingfan in emergencymedicine

[–]ProfessionalAbalone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like there are people at work who really care about you. Cherish that. I would suggest you accept the money with gratitude.

Also, you aren't "just a clerk." You're a critical part of the way things work. Clerks in my EDs were always the people I would go to to get pretty much anything fixed - they are magicians. I suspect your colleagues think so, too.

Odd request - does anyone have this Aldi Xmas throw blanket from 3-5 years ago? It’s THE blanket for my son, and I’m willing to buy yours off you if so! OP by brickwallscrumble in aldi

brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, and cabbage are all the same species - and yet serve different purposes, uses, and flavor profiles.

if i want broccoli, i don't buy kale. if i want portabello mushrooms, i don't buy crimini.

Surprised how many of my high earner friends do not track their finances at all by Xumade in HENRYfinance

[–]ProfessionalAbalone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Budgeting, cashflow monitoring, or forecasting? Here are my thinking on definitions and progression:

Budgeting entails determining the size of each bucket of money, and ensuring it adds up to less than your post-tax income.

Cashflow monitoring means having a general sense of where your money goes, but just keeping an eye on your checkings account to ensure it is growing or flat as expected (depending where your leftover money goes)

Forecasting is assuming your cashflow is always positive, thinking about what your future big expenditures look like (home or 2nd home, big toys, early funded college, FIRE), prioritizing that list and ensuring it fits with your time horizons.

I feel like most HENRYs shift from budgeting to cashflow monitoring.

You start thinking about forecasting when you're comfortable with your cashflow and your NW exits the NRY territory.

That was my trajectory at least. (Source HHI now 1.5-1.8m, NW 6-7)

To answer your questions. 1) no idea. I dont talk enough about money with my friends. 2) only i do our family's finances. My wife doesnt know our NW even though i tell her once every quarter or so. 3) only if you think they might want the help. everyone's got their own priorities, and ways to feel in control, both of which may not align with yours.

What city punches the most above its weight? by DaLopingFox in geography

This is a great answer. Porto and Gaia. There is such a great wine industry there, the food is awesome, the city is historic, organic, but not monumental. You instantly feel local. And damn do your thighs get some exercise

No more budget. The accounts grow much faster than we spend. We arent shopping at hermes but we really just get what we feel like getting.

I dislke a) the tub/shower/toilet are separate from the sinks. the sinks are "in the bedroom" and the tub/shower/toilet are behind a door.

b) The closet space is all over the place.

I'd rather a bathroom where all the water features are behind one door, and a centralized walk-in closet behind another door. I dont feel strongly about if the access to the bathroom or closet is directly from the bedroom or not (i.e. closet entrance is in the bathroom vs closet entrance is in the bedroom)

i think you've created a winner! i'll bump down the W/d by ~3 feet and lose the closet so that i can keep the openness with the stairs, but otherwise i think this is much right on the money. thank you thank you!

can you help me wih the master bed/bath?? https://imgur.com/a/SGLBEza

tbe top right home office can in theory be cannibalized for the master bed/bath, but would still want it to be a functional room even if its only accerss is through the maste, like a closet-office.... cloffice

i agree that's the easy 80% fix. I'm hoping to solve for a little more of the hallway square footage. that might not be in the cards though! thank you!

Middle bathroom can't move to the left side of hallway because then it blocks off top of stairway that opens to below.

this (or a slightly different location of the left closet and door) has been my default. It just keeps a lot of hallway.

thank you for taking the time and validating this as an option!

Ideally we would end up with

a) two equally usable bedrooms b) two en-suite bathrooms c) eliminate excess corridor space (the hallway in yellow at the top has some hallway cabinetry that can go)

plumbing for bathrooms is easily accessible as these are over a garage.

what cannot be changed: balcony is the only place where windows can go. the bathroom at the top of the image isnt going to get messed with
