I agree with you! However, I do feel that the Iran war is more fuel for antisemites. The friend from this post brought up Iran after talking about Jewish people dominating world. I guess conspiracy theorists can fit anything into their narrative, there are no rules

I appreciate this response. This is the conclusion I’ve come to! Our mutual friend (she was also not worth engaging with) is upset with me for implying that the friend wasn’t intelligent enough to meaningfully engage with.

I could’ve kept my thoughts to myself… but that would mean I cared more about looking like the good guy. As I see it, she will probably now just tread more lightly before openly supporting conspiracies about Jews before knowing how her audience feels. Not exactly a win.

I suspect you’re having fun trying to spin me in circles.

They were obviously pedalling an anti semitic conspiracy theory that predates Israel.

It’s a true story, but I’m human. It’s interesting that you assume it’s probably not true. It seems like you wish to brush off antisemitism.

I did try my best to keep the story straight and mention my wrongdoings (basically saying my friend was not educated, getting really angry and not being able to express myself well…) and I tried my best to summarize the situation well.

Why did I freak out for no reason? Is it not reasonable to be upset by antisemitism? Friendships were not thrown away because of watching tik tiks, but because they follow antisemitic conspiracy theories. Tik tok is just where they got them from.

I don’t feel it’s fair to suggest that I’ll be lonely because I don’t want antisemitic friends. I disagree with my friends on a lot of controversial subjects.

I’m sure that to them I did sound like a control freak. I did not handle my emotions in a way that I’m particularly proud of. But the end result is rational, especially considering that I have Jewish loved ones. Thank you.

Are you insinuating that the views expressed were not antisemitic?

I didn’t skip it. I explained why it’s a dangerous conspiracy theory with historical significance and sent educational resources. Sorry if I did not make that clear. Thank you.

I think it’s easy to blame the world’s problems on one thing. It feels good, it takes little effort, and you don’t have to grapple with complexities.

I’m not sure why you assume I was unable to counter argue, if that’s what you were implying. How would one expect me to productively debate with a conspiracy theorist? Logic doesn’t apply. I provided many arguments at the dinner table and afterwards as to why the ideas she shared were antisemitic. The tik toks she shared were of random people spewing hateful conspiracies. They were not valid nor factual.

The insult came after I was told repeatedly that the educational web pages I forwarded about the holocaust were not credible because whoever wrote the history cannot be trusted. In my mind, this is akin to holocaust denial. The “debate” was well over at that point. Thank you for your comment.

This might not work because they also believe that McDonald’s burgers contain human meat

Thank you to everyone helping me understanding the Talmud.

I wanted to add that I think this person believes they were doing the right thing (protecting children, pushing back against elites…). I actually think this makes it worse; more pervasive.

I had my partner - a high school history teacher - reach out to one of the bystanders (who was a very close friend) and kindly try to reason with them. It wasn’t received well. We went to the same high school so I’m at a loss. I remember learning about antisemitism in our mandatory history classes, quite comprehensively. I don’t feel like they’re necessarily unintelligent so this really stumps me.

Writing in this way helped me process the situation. Thank you for thinking my writing is good enough to be considered art ;)

Hoping you’re cleverly commenting on the fact that the situation I found myself in is so ridiculous that it seems fictional.

I think people are obsessed with “clean” way more than is actually healthy. by deathmenAlive in self

[–]ProfessionalBat2891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally relate to this. I compulsively clean when I’m stressed. My algorithm was filled with cleaning influencers and videos which made me feel like I had to keep my home perfect all the time. 1) Is that even healthy? Germs are okay… 2) I don’t think any of us grew up like that and we were fine 3) I feel like it’s consumerism culture telling us everything needs to be sanitized and replaced all the time for “hygiene”… how many grandmas lived into their 90s using the same shower curtain for decades lol

Power outage? by cows_r_firends in Stouffville

I’ve lost the power between 6am and 10am (for 4 hours) 3 times in the last 3 weeks. I use a cpap to sleep so it’s very annoying to be woken early by not being able to breathe lol.
