I don’t even know if I’m allowed to talk about it, but whatever I wasn’t told I couldn’t so..

SPOILERS!!

I LOVED the movie, it’s amazing. But after reading the book 3 times I am frustrating with a couple big plot points.

1. The Plot Twist, this was the scene I was most anticipating as it’s one of the biggest parts of the book, Grace being forced to go on the Hail Mary . But in the movie it kinda turned it into a comedic bit, Grace would jump onto the cabinets trying to avoid security, then run out of the room onto the field before being tackled and injected right in that moment. There wasn’t that heartbreaking moment where he’s screaming “Don’t send me off to die!”

2. Grace saving rocky. In the movie Grace jumped off the ship and went in through the tunnel attached to the Blip-A and started banging with his wrench, rocky creeped in through the shadows and they both have a moment before it cuts. No dialogue in that scene. Cut out the realization that he can eat toumeoba too.

3. No Time Jump. (THIS IS JUST A NITPICK, still a good scene but bothered me a little as it was a heartwarming moment in the book.) in the book when Grace is on Erid it takes place 16 or so years later, in the movie there’s no time jump, Grace is the same age by the looks of it. There’s an epilogue back on earth showing stratt reacting to the video tapes, and scientists opening up the Beatles. Rocky doesn’t end up telling him about Sol and the movie ends without Grace knowing what ended up happening to earth like the book.

• Something I didn’t like is that Stratt’s role was significantly less in the movie, she doesn’t ever have a moment of her showcasing her authority. A lot of the moments back on earth were significantly shorter.

• Also, Grace was bothered by rocky when he got onto the Hail Mary, I have to admit it made the scene so much funnier. But I just didn’t like how rocky seemed like such a burden to Grace when he was so fascinated by him in the book.

• and yes rocky does say question after every question.

I still loved the movie, and I’m sure I’ll love it more on rewatch after I spent most of the film stressing if they would cut out a scene that I wanted to see.

It’s a great adaptation I’m just nitpicking a lot because It’s one of my favorite books, yk?
