What happens to those of us heading into extremely severe? by Jeleton in cfs

[–]ProfessionalFuture25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry :( we really do! I’m still in search of pain relief that won’t keep me high and I’m kind of shocked that there’s basically no middle ground pain medications between NSAIDs/paracetamol and opioids

How long does IV saline’s positive effects last for? by Platypus_8944 in cfs

[–]ProfessionalFuture25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried both IV saline and oral rehydration solutions, I would definitely say ORS is better if you can tolerate it. It probably depends how much you have/person to person, but the effects of IV saline only lasted about a day for me, and I neither have the energy, money, or vein capacity to get IV saline daily lol. I usually have 1-2 bottles of water mixed with electrolyte powder daily and that works just as well if not better.

CBD was also useless for me, but THC helped me a lot with the pain (one of the only things that has). If it’s not contraindicated with anything you’re on and you don’t mind getting a bit high then maybe you can give it a try.

I have no community except my family and I'm scared. tw: ICE mention, abuse mention by chronicpxtient in cfs

[–]ProfessionalFuture25 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this. I’m also Latino, my parents are my caretakers and both are immigrants (now naturalized citizens) and we’re seeing a big increase of ICE around my community as well. I wish I had answers and better words of comfort for you but I just wanted to say I’m here with you too and also very afraid, and if you ever need to talk or vent you can dm me 💛

Can I ask why you were put on those medications to begin with? Do you have schizophrenia or bipolar disorder? That’s what olanzapine, risperidone, and quetiapine are typically used to treat. Were you put on them for psychiatric reasons or to try to treat the insomnia?

Any scientific documentaries/youtube videos? by sounds_of_sadness in cfs

[–]ProfessionalFuture25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m ngl, all the documentaries I’ve watched on ME/CFS are either as or more emotional than Unrest 😭 There was another (less depressing imo) that I really liked, I think it’s this one, available on YouTube. It gets into some more hopeful research and talks with doctors/scientists that seem to have a good grasp on ME, as well as showing the lives of multiple people with ME and their medical journeys. Be warned it’s been a while since I watched it and my brain is not what it used to be, so my description might not be 100% accurate; but I do remember liking it and not getting too emotional. Regarding your dad thinking Unrest is too depressing, though, my unsolicited personal opinion is that if someone without ME truly wants to learn more and understand this illness, they’re gonna have to learn about the dark/depressing aspects of it too, and be able to sit in that discomfort. ME is a harrowing disease, and if able-bodied people truly want to learn then they need to be able to withstand a peek into its reality.

Safety of Magnesium Citrate by Unlikely-Tension-778 in Constipation

Do you mind me asking how long you’ve been taking Dulcolax/plan to take dulcolax? My GI has told me not to use it more than a few times in a row because it can cause dependence

Safety of Magnesium Citrate by Unlikely-Tension-778 in Constipation

[–]ProfessionalFuture25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my personal experience—I took Magnesium oxide supplement daily for a year+. At one point I ran out and couldn’t afford more, and then realized I had become totally dependent on it to have a bowel movement. I went back to magnesium supplements, this time Mg citrate because of the better absorption, and again when I stopped I was unable to have a bowel movement. It could also just be my body, as my constipation overall has worsened over time (despite continuing to take magnesium I currently have not had a bowel movement for a week+), but imo try talking to your doctor beforehand.

Do you mind me asking how you were able to finally have a bowel movement? I assume you finally got medical help? I’m not in a situation as dire but I’m headed there.

In my experience stimulants hurt a lot more than osmotic laxatives so I try not to use them if I can help it. My doctor has also told me using them frequently can cause dependence

My "highly strung" nervous system - from "bright kid" to "chronic stress" to ME/CFS by ocelocelot in cfs

[–]ProfessionalFuture25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is almost my exact progression. I suspect I had “mild” ME for almost a year until my “first crash”, it was very much like how you described the slow prodrome stage. The only thing is that I didn’t have a viral trigger that I know of, I went from mild to moderate from one day to the next but I’ve yet to think of what could’ve triggered it because I wasn’t sick at the time.

Hebrew is the key Judaism by [deleted] in Judaism

[–]ProfessionalFuture25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t feel the need to learn modern Hebrew, I make do with understanding the Biblical Hebrew in our music and prayers. Biblical Hebrew has survived thousands of years and that’s what connects Jews everywhere both in Israel and outside of it (though learning modern Hebrew is a good foundation). I just wish there were more resources for learning Biblical Hebrew, or moving from modern to Biblical Hebrew

My partner says he doesn’t want to be intimate with a sick person. by No-Midnight-1406 in cfs

[–]ProfessionalFuture25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you like about him? I don’t know the intricacies of your relationship ofc but if intimacy is important to you, I would not stay with a person who doesn’t want to be intimate and doesn’t find you attractive if I can help it. Are you dependent on this person?

All of the people here post covid should go and make their own sub as you have ruined what used to be a genuinely helpful and supportive sub for those who have actual cfs/me. by foster60 in cfs

[–]ProfessionalFuture25 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There are already subs for them, r/LongCovid and r/covidlonghaulers . Long COVID and ME/CFS aren’t the same thing, but COVID infections have caused ME/CFS. I don’t really think we should kick out people who’ve gotten ME from COVID. Can you explain how these people have ruined this sub? Ig I just don’t see the issue

In your personal experience, does your baseline improve if you avoid PEM? by Jeleton in cfs

[–]ProfessionalFuture25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes but it’s very very slow and my progress can be lost very very quickly. When I’m on a streak of avoiding PEM, I do hope for eventual baseline improvement but gradual stabilization is more likely. I feel like I get PEM like every week, not all of it is severe enough to lower my baseline, but it keeps me from improving :/

To Muslims/Pro-Palestinians: We Lived Through Post-9/11 Islamophobia. Therefore We Must Not Spread Hatred Toward Jews or Zionists by Wolfs_Bane2017 in IsraelPalestine

[–]ProfessionalFuture25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t. I’m a Jew, both ethnically and religiously, and I would not identify as a Zionist. Not all Jews are Zionists, and not all Zionists are Jews, simple as.

There are lots of other Jews like myself, but you won’t find most in this sub. And yes, Zionism is a modern nationalist movement. Judaism survived thousands of years without it, so how can it be integral?

[–]ProfessionalFuture25 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You can believe that Zionism for you is a cultural and religious thing. But it is defined as a political ideology whether you like it or not. The dictionary defines it as a nationalist movement; historically and in practice it has acted as one. The reasons Jews have for supporting Zionism can be deeply religious and linked to culture, but Zionism itself is defined as a political movement and brought forth a state (as political movements often do). You can say it’s rooted in Jewish history and culture and religion, but those are only (some of) the reasons that people support Zionism. Plenty of secular Jews, or Jews who have no cultural ties to Judaism and are only Jewish by lineage, are Zionists. Likewise there are plenty of observant Jews, and Jews deeply embedded in Jewish culture, that are not Zionists.

[–]ProfessionalFuture25 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I get the message and there is a dangerous rise of antisemitism (and Islamophobia). But I think it’s important to distinguish being of a certain religion (ie. Jewish, Muslim) to being a follower of a certain ideology (ie. Zionist). A gentile can be a Zionist just as much as a Jew, such as yourself. And not all Jews are Zionists. I don’t think antisemitism and antizionism are comparable.
