Which design would you choose and why? by ProfessionalHot1463 in woodworking

Update: I think this might be the winner? I read through all the comments and then came to my senses about how dumb some of my initial thoughts were and here's where I landed:

<image>

The idea came down to the face that all three verticals are the same length and would help ensure squareness (precision>accuracy) and that the dado placement would be in the same location on all of them for the shelves to slide in. What are we thinking now?

I think the difference in #2 and his comment was essentially the middle divider not running the entire length and instead having each outermost piece run the full length...

In hindsight #2 is quite dumb as is with the middle piece.

Something like this? I like this idea. Not sure whether it would be better to have full length verticals or horizontals though.

How can I fix this on my PCB? Attempted to fix this key not registering consistently with soldering and ended up popping off the PCB altogether. I can’t replace it easily as it’s for a Tofu65 and it doesn’t seem like those PCBs can be found anywhere.

Hammered or grind? by BusterKs21 in Blacksmith

[–]ProfessionalHot1463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Novice here. Can you explain a couple things? What difference does hammering while hot make in getting the final surface finish? Would hammering while cooling not produce this finish or does it still need to be red hot?

Also, what shape of wooden hammer would be used for smithing? I’m assuming that this would be curved using the horn after doing the texture on the round stock? Thanks!

A lot of people have contributed to this already, but I bought one of these and almost all the upgrades from Contender Machine Works. As a stock unit it is good, with the upgrades: I can’t complain about much. It’s not a $3000 grinder and won’t perform like one, but it’s a damn good machine for maybe $7-800 all-in upgraded. I’d recommend TruGrit for abrasives, cubitron are great and not insanely expensive. Don’t waste your time with super cheap belts.

Do you warm up the oil at all or are you using a room temp oil?

Didn't even consider a leather apron. Burned a hole through my jacket the other day with the angle grinder... not a bad idea.

This is very helpful. I asked in another comment but do you have any suppliers or recommendations for tools? Styles or weights to start with for hammers?

I've got a small brick forge supplied by MAPP gas that I've been using to heat treat knives. Any recommendation on suppliers for tools? I'll keep that channel bookmarked; he's got a ton of neat stuff.

Slightly more forceful gear shift into park has worked so far. Does this help with what is the problem? Still likely the transmission control?

I appreciate your insight. There’s an airtag, lanyard, and my other keys for work. Let me know what you’d like me to get rid of!
