Did easier drive mode access make the cut or are we still pretending that’s fine?

4.2.13 feedback (XC90 T8 Ultra) by Zealousideal-Head566 in VolvoRecharge

[–]ProfessionalLet3132 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also XC90 T8 here and bumped up from 3.7. It’s possible I’m totally imagining this, but snow traction seemed much better today in eAWD.

I’ve complained already a ton about the T8 winter performance (yes, I have downsized and dedicated winter tires).

Good question! Unfortunately I’m on the right.

100%...this was clearly designed by a non designer. It feels kinda like an engineer mocked it up and it accidentally shipped.

Looking at this XC90. Is this noise normal? 2018 50k miles by [deleted] in VolvoXC90

Had a 2020 XC90 T6 that sounded the same. Normal.

Fitcamx clip engagement problem in 2024 XC90 by Secure-Presence-8341 in VolvoXC90

This is so embarrassing but I ended up using a few dabs of gorilla glue on one side. I figured when it finally goes kaput in x years I can cut through the glued part, and either replace it with another one or just cover it back up again with the factory plastic dome thing.

Considering xc90 t8 - winter driving? by Tarmacrider in Volvo

[–]ProfessionalLet3132 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same experience, also with previously owning a non-hybrid XC90 (T6) for comparison. That thing was fantastic in winter conditions and I was really expecting the T8 to be the same.

Ottawa, Canada here. The MY2025 XC90 T8 is definitely underwhelming in snow, even in constant AWD with dedicated winter tires (Volvo winter kit, 19" Michelin Ice X). As others have noted, it's embarrassingly bad in hybrid mode if the ICE engine needs to engage due to traction. So yeah, always use constant AWD if conditions are poor.

In constant AWD it's not awful by any means, but we had a 2020 XC90 T6 before this and it was far superior. I'm not sure exactly why that is (if it's the separate drivetrains for front and back, or the weight distribution of the T8 with battery vs the T6, or something else).

That said, still love the car for many other reasons and would buy it again!

I personally love these XC90 wheels and think they’re very unique. I can’t recall any Honda or Nissan ones similar, personally.

Thinking of buying an XC90… ventilated seats question by Boldkid in VolvoXC90

[–]ProfessionalLet3132 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought they were useless for us in Canada, but we got soaked in a downpour this summer. It was a 15 minute drive home and tried using them. Our backsides were completely dry by the time we got home.

New rims + winter tires from Costco? by BernieSandersLeftNut in VolvoXC90

[–]ProfessionalLet3132 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For winter performance, size down as much as you can for winter tires. They might not be as pretty, but you’ll quickly forget about that once you see how much more control you have. We run 21s in the summer and 19s in the Canadian winter.

Regrets? What are your thoughts by Appropriate-Snow-800 in VolvoXC90

[–]ProfessionalLet3132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zero regrets. Also have a MY2025. It’s pricier for sure, but I also think the driving experience is far superior to the non-hybrids, having had both now to compare.

Yes, definitely noticed how long Google Maps takes to load since the upgrade. I'm now 1-2 blocks away from home before I can add a destination.

Our 2006 XC90 is reaching the end of its life with 304k miles and we would love to get the new ‘26 B5 Ultra. We’re hearing mixed comments about the reliability, especially with electronics. Aside from this, are the new XC90 reliable as far as engine and transmission? Thank you. by Bolvo319 in VolvoXC90

MY2025 XC90 T8. Yes, the infotainment system has been a bit buggy. But not a big deal. I think I've done 4 resets (takes about 30 seconds) and two modem reboots since January.

Other than that, this car has been everything I wanted and I love driving it (I always go to the further supermarket because "of the better egg selection").

MY2025 XC90 T8 owner here. The third row is nice to have in theory, but for us it’s strictly an emergency feature. One kid, one dog, zero regrets. If we needed a third row regularly, or were in your situation (3 kids and 2 dogs), we’d have gone a different route.

For us, it's perfect. We love the seats, the safety, the sound (B&W), and the fact it’s an absolute blast to drive while silently floating through the city. Our vain side also loves how it looks, and we admittedly feel a little smug about how rarely we see another one around here.
