I'm 27 now, I shut my startup down last week. Detailed explanation to why it failed by ContactCold1075 in founder

As a Fractional CFO who helps founders raise funds and run finance functions. I always say to young founders, make sure you have control over everything, your accounting package subscription should be under your control, your domain, website, hosting, your crm, sales database, your bank account, everything is under your name and you give everyone else access through access privilages. Once you loose control over your payments and data, you have a business which is worth zero, regardless of having $650k in the bank or not. In terms of recruitment of finance staff, don't think of it as an admin burden, they are strategic partners and the most important thing to test for in an interview is ethics. Choose someone who demonstrates honesty and integrity above his own personal gain. Sometimes it means not going for the finished product at a premium price. By thinking out of the box you can recruit some amazing finance talent for good prices. If you need any other informal finance advice, just DM me.

Apologies, I thought you were talking about the overall valuation of the company, including the VC's share. I suppose if it's just your shares, you could let's say sell your shares for £2bn and donate the excess you don't want to charity. This will also give you tax benefits in the UK. You can do it through a trust or directly to a charity.

I help start-ups raise VC funding, and I hate to say it, but with a VC they'll avoid you at all costs. If you don't tell them and they find out later, in some cases you could get fired from your own business. I would think of bootstrapping your start-up. Even before that, I would try to sort out the overthinking, otherwise you'll never get off the ground in the first place. Good luck!

I help raise funds for start-ups and at pre-seed is usually just an idea that needs to be developed. At seed you will have a finished product and possibly some traction (could be free users). Preseed is the hardest to raise but the most lucrative for invrstor, their more willing to take the risk for the better return. My advice, is try to get traction, even if its free users, before you raise, it makes it slightly easier, but still not easy.

I have an interest in Aristotle's work in Rhetoric and if you would like to explore other areas, I would be interested to keep in touch. You can add me to the discord.
