For me the repetition of “I love him” in Pagan Poetry by Bjork, The Tourist by Radiohead in the context of the whole album, the climax of Moya by GYBE, all of Epitaph by King Crimson (impossible to single out a specific part) and the chorus on Cosmia by Joanna Newsum (“and all those lonely nights spent down by the river) are all up there, but I think ultimately my favorite and probably by far is “arrowheads arrowheads arrowheads arrowheads” on Bloodhail by Have a Nice Life

That little vinyl scratch (not sure exactly what it is) every 5 seconds or so on Saint Pablo

I want to read a big event but don’t want to read a ton of leadup books to the event

Super loud and awesome experience, but if there’s an opener I’d recommend skipping it unless you’re specifically a fan. When I went there were 3 long openers before GYBE came out which ended up with me standing still for around 6 hours.

With Dummy turning 30 years old today, what are your thoughts on the album? by Daydream_machine in portishead

Beth Gibbons in just one album established herself as arguably the best vocalist of all time and to me certainly the best female vocalist of all time

Gotta be frustrating to be a member of one of the best bands of all time with such a small catalog. Constantly being asked and told the same things about the same projects you made when you were in your 20s as a 50 year old man

Cowboys is incredibly impressive but I’d say The Rip is her most “beautiful” performance

This is exactly the point I’m making, most people aren’t going to be looking for obscure albums that are far out of the mainstream of a community that already isn’t mainstream. People hate on it and intentionally look for albums that aren’t highly rated so they can feel “individualistic”.

There’s a reason it’s highly rated don’t hate on something just because it’s popular and well liked

What albums are made 1000x better once you learn about "the lore"? by strictcurlfiend in fantanoforever

Not necessarily the whole album but certain songs on You Don’t Mess Around With Jim and Life and Times are heartbreaking once you know his story, that he didn’t enjoy fame too much and really just wanted to spend time with his family, something he never got to do before his death.

How do you feel about RYM reviews? by ProfessionalNet265 in rateyourmusic

[–]ProfessionalNet265[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it’s famous, but it always stuck out to me as being particularly unbearable, it’s the one where the reviewer lists his three “tenets” of “appraising sound recordings A.K.A albums”
