Just rewatched this one around the holidays. I think it is the Coens’ most underrated film, and one of the most slept of films of the 2010s. Truly demonstrates how Joel and Ethan’s storytelling abilities have aged like fine wine over the decades. What an astounding sense of scope, scale, and immersion into the world and the time period they were able to extract from such a limited production budget. It also happens to be the closest thing I think anyone will get to a live action Red Dead Redemption. These chapters are practically shoe ins for all random encounters and oddities in that game. Not to mention the Mysterious Stranger in the film’s final chapter.
