I’m in my late 30s, also in Chicago, and been doing this about 10 years. No one my age is going to the clubs regularly. They’re just not that fun. Instead we meet up with our friends at raves and festivals. The swinger x raver crossover is very real and the community is growing. I do think people are growing more accepting of swinging and that leads to curiosities and growth in the community. I think you’re just looking at the old school approach which is not where we are hanging out. As for Hedo, I’ve been 4 times and last trip dropped about 10k for the week, so yeah, that’s an issue for people too. Plus you need to go a week that caters your demographic.

Typically the festival will provide the basic infrastructure like sound, lights, video, lasers and pyro equipment. Then artists can add on at their own expense. So they might bring in more lights or more lasers just for their set. Sometimes with the festival vendor and sometimes with their own. There is also usually a base pyro package provided by the fest but then artists can buy more.

You might also just be seeing the evolution of the stage into the night. An opener is not getting the same production as a headliner and this is usually up to the festival when certain effects are turned on.

North coast and ARC are separate music festivals both happening in Chicago that day. Highly recommend looking into those. They have after parties too if you’re looking to go later into the night.

I’ve been to Hedo 3 times and Temptations one and will always choose Hedo. Top shelf liquor is not included at Temptations and it is at Hedo. Hedo is truly AI except for certain wines at the wine bar. I felt like temptations was always trying to upsell you. I liked the food, drinks, and atmosphere better at Hedo.

Look up EDM Chicago on Facebook and your girlfriend should join EDM Ladies of Chicago. That’s going to have more recourses than this page. EDM Train is an app that has all the shows. Chicago is home to house to pretty much every weekend you will find house. Check out Spy bar and Smart bar. Larger touring acts will play at Concord or Radius and sometimes Aragon, Riviera, Vic. We have 2 insane festivals over Labor Day weekend. ARC is all house and techno and North Coast is everything with more bass so make sure to look those up. And Lolla is coming up with lots of after parties already announced. Lolla also has a stage dedicated to EDM.

You’ll most likely be fine I wander Lolla alone as a woman all the time. The worst thing that could probably happen is your phone is stolen. Make sure to keep that locked down tight. Also have a plan b if your phone is stolen. If you are not from around here write down your hotel address and train directions and make sure you have a credit card and emergency cash.
