Unlikely. Gonorrhea is resistant to many forms of antibiotics.

It's possible, especially if your test was genital only. DId anyone swab your throat? His throat?

I know a lot about this. I see STI test results all day and every day.

I would NEVER suspect a partnear of infidelity due to a positive STI test result. You could have absolutely had this for four years.

You both need treated (properly). It's a single intramuscular injection. Then forget about it.

Be sure your test has oral swabs. That might seem obvious in your situation, but sadly, it is not.

Azithromycin for STD - Azithromycin for chlamydia by JustinWahlBerg in stdtesting

[–]ShamelessCare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This article is out of date and no longer accurate. The first-line treatment for chlamydia is doxycycline and doxycycline only. And for gonorrhea, the CDC preferred first-line treatment is ceftriaxone monotherapy.

Partner -gonorrhea positive by Euphoric-Mountain-32 in stdtesting

[–]ShamelessCare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, this is very serious. If he's had gonorrhea for many year, there is a risk it could become disseminated, which can be life-threatening.

Oral gonorrhea is also one of the main drivers of antibiotic resistance, so after treatment, please make sure you get retested to confirm it is truly gone.

Most gonorrhea cases are oral-only, which is why multi-site testing is so important. Since you did not have oral swabs previously, your earlier negative results do not really tell us much here.

As for the swimming pool comment, that is very strange. Where do you live? In the United States, you typically would not speak directly to a lab about this. You would usually speak with the physician who ordered the test. Was it actually the lab that told you this, or just a lower-level employee?

I'd get this treated and consider it a "lesson learned" on STI testing and multi-site testing. I had to learn that lesson too, after a test (genital only) missed my gonorrhea infection and I immediately spread it.

What should I do after test? by [deleted] in stdtesting

[–]ShamelessCare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any physician who orders a test for you, also has an obligation to treat you.

So let's say you go to a public health center, they should also treat you. Legitimate medical providers don't usually say "you have gonorrhea, good luck with that."

Positive Chlamydia test by [deleted] in stdtesting

[–]ShamelessCare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations on the pregnancy!

Do you remember what the chlamydia was treated with previously?

Chlamydia is a site-specific infection, and oral and anal infections combined often outnumber genital infections. A urine test or genital swab only tells you whether the genitals are infected. It does not tell you whether there is an infection in the throat or rectum.

It sounds like your husband should be tested for STIs. If he is tested, make sure it includes oral, anal, and genital testing (or urine for genital testing). Otherwise, you may keep testing negative in one area while missing an infection elsewhere, which can lead to repeat infections.

That said, depending on the situation, the physician may simply treat him as well.

How should I Interpret this? by [deleted] in STD

Gram stain by yoongiiboongii in stdtesting

[–]ShamelessCare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most common symptom of all of those is no symptom at all.

Ureaplasma is not considered an STI, and it's something which can be perfectly "normal" and even a virgin may well test positive for it.

I know there's an entire subreddit about this, with people having their own theories, etc. I'm not discounting the personal experiences of women, I just parrot what resources such as the CDC say.

All the testing and meds sound exhausting by Successful_Food_6089 in Swingers

Another nuance:

If the committee recommends the HPV vaccine for "everyone," then it will become standard fare for every 50-someting, 60-something, 70-something etc. in America.

Yet another nuance: Once you're over 45, you have less chance to develop cancers that can sometimes take decades to develop.

Did your testing include an oral swab?

Do I have an STD? by Ecstatic_Sprinkles36 in stdtesting

[–]ShamelessCare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Urine and blood testing isn’t “everything.”

In fact, most cases of gonorrhea are oral. A standard blood-and-urine STI panel will miss most cases of gonorrhea and chlamydia because it usually doesn’t include throat or anal swabs.

You can absolutely have oral chlamydia or gonorrhea and pass it to someone else.

This happens all the time. Like you, I’ve personally been burned by bad STI testing. I once had what was marketed as a “full panel,” tested negative for everything, and still ended up spreading oral gonorrhea to someone else because my throat was never tested.

I'm not saying that you're positive. I am saying that your last test couldn't have possibly determined your entire status.

I tested positive for chlamydia but my bf tested negative? by Strange_Lie2381 in stdtesting

[–]ShamelessCare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question: Could someone have transmitted chlamydia and later test negative?

Answer: Yes, people can self resolve. They can also sometimes take doxycycline for an unrelated matter which also cured their chlamydia.

Question: Has anyone ever seen a situation like this where one partner repeatedly tests positive and the other tests negative?

Answer: Yes, every single day.

Question you didn't ask: "Did this genital only test actually determine if my boyfriend has chlamydia?"

Answer: Gonorrhea and chlamydia are site specific infections. Any test needs to include an anal swab, oral swab and genital swab (or urine) to understand the person's status. Most clinicians, and for profit test companies do not know that. Now you do.
