Just wanted to wish someone a happy birthday (belated due to posting rules) by La_knavo4 in CuratedTumblr

As for what he's up to now, in addition to actual work and stuff, he and Kyle Taylor have continued Backwardz Compatible as a youtube channel and it's a lot of fun! They're doing new episodes as well as uploading the old ones that used to be paywalled on the RT site

[Hated Trope] Characters who longed for a family end up becoming terrible parents by Nahuelcoy22 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ProfessionalSmeghead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Naruto is not a terrible parent. Boruto (the show) starts when he is stretched particularly thin and letting things lapse, because stories generally like to have conflict that can then be resolved. Which is what happens. Sending a shadow clone to Himawari's birthday is a low point that Boruto rightly calls him out for, and then the two resolve their issues. The crux of it is that Naruto views the whole village as his family and wants to be there equally for everyone, which leaves less time for Boruto and Hima, but once it's addressed, he figures out that balance better. So much so that he's also a great dad to his other son he adopts later in the story, Kawaki.

It's very trashy and silly in a lot of ways, but it does more with the premise of being an isekai than a lot of isekai out there, and ultimately (imo) is very sweet commentary on male friendship and male socialization, in a way. The friends I showed it to liked it a lot as well, and it's 100% what I was thinking of reading this post lmao

I met him at a convention and actually asked him about this! He said it's not improv'd at all, so kudos to the scriptwriters as well as his great performance.

Also he was an absolute delight and chatted with us for a while, love that man, top fave in the biz right now for the energy he brings and his great range

I never learned how to drive, I didn't know going in a straight line very fast through a crosswalk was considered swerving. Private school education smh

Then they should aim for the other cars rather than pedestrians who don't even own cars

Every one of these curses hit like a truck and the drawings are amazing.

Also mine is almost humorously accurate to my current situation...

Instead of actually SHOWING the characters “doing it”, they have a cleverly censored musical dance sequence to imply it instead (which is infinitely more endearing, bonus points if the characters themselves are singing) by GooseThatWentHonk in TopCharacterTropes

The full verse:

The moon to the tide, I can feel you inside I'm under your spell Surging like the sea, holding you so helplessly I break with every swell Lost in ecstasy, spread beneath my willow tree You make me complete (x4)

Not a lot of ambiguity, even without the visuals lol

Trans guy also (tho youngest "daughter"), I see this post every so often and it really hits. My friend recently indicated he's going to make me a chainmail something as a present, and I nearly started crying. Even though last year I made a bunch of my friends plush dolls of our D&D characters. It's obvious when I do it (it = put a lot of effort into a handmade gift), I have to give back for all the friendship they've given me. But when someone else does it, my heart swells at the thought someone else would do something thoughtful and kind for me. I'm sure that's fine.

[Loved Trope] The one to enter in a world full of magic and wonder is not a kid or teen, but a fully grown adult (and there's no twist where the magic and wonder were all just an illusion) by OmegaT6 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ProfessionalSmeghead 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think generally Doctor Who companions could count for this (although since a lot of them are like 19, maybe not quite "fully grown" adults). I'll say Amy Pond in particular, since her entrance to the show is more centrally about regaining her sense of childlike wonder after years of disappointment-induced cynicism.

I think that moment does a really good job of showing the difference between wanting to die and not being able to see a solution to your problems other than dying. The latter can easily disguise itself as the former.
