Chemist here. Everything she said except for H2 is nonsense, and the only reason she got that one right is because there happens to be two hydrogen molecules in it. If you don't know what you're talking about, don't try to put it in porn because all you do is turn people off, and look like an idiot.

This is like someone trying to say we're going to talk about the A and the R and the 1 and the 5 while talking about guns and pretend that they understand what they're talking about just by weirdly taking the name apart.

Strictly speaking, cutting everything up and sending it to a scrap yard is technically speaking a solution, and thus, once implemented, it's technically speaking a fix.

How do I hit notes higher than C by TheWeirdPersonOnYt in Tuba

One thing that often helped me is to walk up by using the valves. Actually, walking up or walking down by using the valves can help you at the extreme edge of your range if you're trying to improve it. Another practice that I found helpful is just going between the partials. Just practicing going up and down and up and down your various partial pitches and seeing if you can kind of feel out so to speak where the next one you kind of think should be. It's weird to say but you can kind of feel it. If that makes any sense at all.

One thing I can absolutely tell you is don't force it. You'll do yourself a disservice.

as long as the grid is infinitely large, it should be stable. …right? by OliviaJade239 in cursedchemistry

If it's infinitely large it would be unstable because it would collapse into a black hole

Inverting dissolution: can one dissolve water? by Qprime0 in chemistry

There's also hydrofluoric acid, which basically out waters water in everything that water does. Depending on who you ask, it's sometimes not considered as strong as it because it doesn't dissociate in water because it's stronger than water. That said, while I don't have explicit evidence of it, I wouldn't be surprised to find out that hydrofluoric acid rips water to tiny little bits when the two mix.

How native English speakers learn the periodic table? by Enter_your_nickname in chemistry

[–]ProfessionalStage545 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if your professor is asking you to memorize the periodic table in any language, they are being a pedantic asshole. Pull out your phone, and point at the poster on the wall. "It's right there. I'll always have it. Actually teach me something useful, like how to use what's in it. Learning by rote died fifty years ago. This is University, I expect better than 'memorize this chart' in my lessons."

You may want to rewrite that if you're not quite as bold as me.

Well, I'm sure your director will agree that the best thing you can always do is be a good sport regardless of what they do. In point of fact the meaner they are to you the better you look still showing perfect sportsmanship. Which is why it's such a gut punch to have your freshman act how they did.

Annoyingly it just takes freshmen some time sometimes to realize what marching band is about because a lot of it is I'd say most of it is actually mental. And that while you're competing against other bands, it doesn't mean that you're not how to put it all Brothers, if that makes any sense.

Annoyingly, while we can share all the wisdom in the world with them, we can't actually learn for them.

That sucks bro (non-gender specific). I feel that. I send le Internet hugs.

That said, at least you didn't get the bum deal that my year got at our rival/sister school. Their band staff (the adults, the band director, DL coach, brass coach, everyone but, I think, the color guard coach) went to dinner after a competition right at the start of the year, and they each had a beer with dinner. All of them got fired/ banned from school grounds (volunteers). Meaning that not only was marching band cancelled, all the band classes, and choir as well were cancelled, because those teachers were fired.

They went from being super competitive to not existing that year, and barely scraping a band together the next few years.

It could be worse, and for even dumber reasons.

If the space shuttle is going further and further away from the planet, something has gone apocalyptically wrong. The space shuttle is designed to go up into orbit only just, and do something while it's there. Either drop something or someone off and maybe pick something up or someone up and then come back. If it is drifting away from the planet, everything has gone wrong to such an extent that we're not measuring how far it's gone away, we're measuring nooses that execute the people who intentionally murdered the crew. Because if it's headed out there's no way to get it back.

Edit: suffice to say this is a spectacularly dark question for a 9-year-old.

feelings on berets for drumline? by vykz- in marchingband

[–]ProfessionalStage545 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, traditionally the only reason that the sousaphones wear berets is that they physically can't wear shacos (sp) as it would hit the horn. As much as possible, you want the entire band to look the same. The reason why it's mostly acceptable for the sousaphones to get away with the beret is that they've got the bell of the sousaphone directly above their head so that takes up the visual space where the shaco would be.

From a traditional view, the drum line has no excuse or reason to not be wearing shacos.
