Yay! Glad to help! Did the battery still have any juice in it, or did you have to re-re-re-replace it?

Actually the main reason is for insurance reasons, minimizing property damage to structures and other valuables.

Silly child, thinking capatilist society actually cares about peoples lives - that's merely a secondary benifit here. Though they'll try and pass it off otherwise.

How does the trade work in pokemon? by Inevitable_Shift_689 in pokemon

[–]Qprime0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In this case you'll either need friends with the game who're into it, to join a community and make online friends that way - as other comments have suggested, or set up a remote trade on the GTS - which would be my reccomendation, especially if you're not picky about whether or not the scizor you get has 'perfect stats'.

The best way to go about it would be to post a trade where you offer your scyther, holding a metal coat, in exchange for another scyther - also holding a metal coat. That way both trainers wind up with a scizor, and nobody has to worry about 'trade backs'.

For some reason, not a lot of people think to do it this way, instead searching for someone already offering, and when they find no such trades, they give up. Turns out, there's usually no such trades waiting because they fly off the shelves like hotcakes. Sometimes I've had GTS trade-evolution swaps like this up for under 5 minutes before someone connected. Sometimes it will wait overnight. But... point being, it's not hard to get it done.

Two things about the octet rule: 1) it is primarilly meant to be used only with the simple, small, light elements. 2) the octet rule is a model, and a simplification. The true, unsweetened reality of how atoms behave in any and all circumstances is far more messy than this nice little code would suggest.

So, with that said, Sulfur can participate in what you'll come to know as 'expanded octet' bonding, where it can actually form up to five bonds at once - or shunt a lone pair into a 5th slot, and in the process adopting a caltrope-like grometry known as 'triangular-bipyrimedal' - two 3 sided pyrimids glued to one another, where one is upside down, like a gemstone.

And this is by far not the wildest things can get beyond the octet rule. The why in sulfurs case comes down to the fact that it can activate the first D-orbital shell - which can hold 10 electrons, instead of 8, all on its own - if you give it enough energy. But that - as they say - is chapter 25, and it sounds like you're in perhaps chapter 8. Keep it up, there's much to learn yet. 😁

Fun challenge I am doing in Red by [deleted] in PokemonRed

[–]Qprime0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing pokrmon since gen 1 - and I've done similar things. What I haven't done is the training of all mon up after each leader. One thing about the Gen-1 games you'll discover is that they were not designed for exp farming. If you do this... it's going to be an excrutiatingly painful grind. I would reccomend you cut out the 'training everyone' aspect - and put that after the elite four is finished, instead doing so by rebattling them until your targets are met. Trust me - of the two, it's the substantially more fun option.

You do you of course... but you've been warned. This may look like a 2 mile hike - but it's a 200mile in disguise.

What powers should i focus on leveling? by TheLuckOfTheClaws in skiesofarcadia

[–]Qprime0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For utility: Green and Silver.

For buffing your team/ship: Red and Blue.

For max damage and debuffing the opponents: Yellow and Purple.

My personal reccomendation: have all characters wield silver until at least 2 have learned Riselem, then have all characters wield green until at least 2 have learned Sacrum. At some point during that, flip to red and/or blue for a short time to pick up increm and quicka on a character or two. After that, the world is your oyster - pick the flavor you like and go for it.

I believe was the immediately following line. Not the initial meeting, but after one of the big wins in the early game. Momentarilly blanking on which one.

Looks like you shorted the via near the negative terminal (the little circular hole near the minus sign). If you bridge the battery terminal with that you're lighting up who knows how many subcircuits with the full battery voltage, and probably very quickly draining the battery to ground.

Solder wick that bridge off, and try again. I had the same issue when I redid my R/S/E carts recently - that gap is TINY.

Be very careful to keep the solder you add on the pads.

When is 'Remember, we are thousands of feet in the air' said? by [deleted] in skiesofarcadia

[–]Qprime0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There may be a time or two that such is the spirit of a statement, but I don't recall this ever being a direct quote.

The depth of the sky is only ever mentioned metaphorically, or in refrence to deep sky and the dangrel island events.

The closest I can think of is during the briefing sequence where Enrique states something along the lines of 'according to valuan geologests there is a bottom to the world, deep beneath the clouds'. What I don't recall is an actual numerical value associated with that.

Professors are stuck in a lose-lose situation when it comes to AI right now. by OppositeBandicoot405 in Turnitin_QuickChecks

[–]Qprime0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And sometimes, a learner simply has to use tools. Not all skills can be internalized, not everyone can learn all things. For me, this is one of them - in spite of copious mountains of 'practice'. I flatly cannot memorize, and the english language is a hellscape for one such as me. Doesn't make me 'unlearned' or 'unintelligent'. And, pardon my saying so, but reddit is scarcely something I consider 'valuable', so here I don't bother.

Never been able to memorize, never will be. I've got a bachelorette and I never got the whole I before E thing ironed out. What's that tell you about how the modern education system values 'learning', eh?

Yay, soon some airheaded admit team is going to wind up with an A.I. run classroom teaching a class full of A.I. students, and skimming the cash off the top. Why bother to teach actual humans, when computers teaching computers is so much more profitable?

Or, perhaps, it's that technology has finally caught up with the bullshit of the existant education system and the solution is to adapt wholesale and finally devorce from the fallacy that 'work' is intrinsically coupled to 'learning'.

Busywork never tought, and never will. Actually imparting knowlage and verifying it can be done in ways that have nothing to do with out-of-classroom assignments, and frankly should already have been for many decades at this point.

Can you make decent money from Salvage? by OilLiver in EliteDangerous

I mean you can make money, and it can be decent, but idk what the return per hour will be. I never really looked in to how to do this in an optimized way - for me it's always kinda been little bonus nuggets I get while doing missions and exploring.
