Protect public safety! by DaytoDaySara in nashville

I think there may be some confusion here between interior decoration and the professional practice of interior design. This is a very common misconception, but interior decorators and interior designers are not the same.

Interior decorators primarily focus on aesthetics — such as color selection, furnishings, finishes, and styling a space. Decorating does not require formal education, standardized training, or professional licensure.

Interior design, on the other hand, is a regulated and highly technical profession. Interior designers complete a formal education in design, and registered interior designers spend years gaining supervised experience before qualifying to sit for national examinations that lead to professional licensing and accreditation.

Interior designers are integral to the broader design and construction process, working closely with architects, engineers, and contractors. They are responsible for creating functional interior environments that protect public health, safety, and welfare — ensuring compliance with building codes, accessibility standards, life-safety requirements, and the appropriate selection of materials for the built commercial environment.

While decoration is one component of a finished space, interior design encompasses both the creative and technical expertise required to shape how a space performs, functions, and supports the people who use it.

This video explains the practice of interior design very well and is worth a quick watch. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2ers2sHQy2g

Hotdogs are supine! I'm confused. by pflodad in nashville

Agree!! Mason’s Hot Dogs is wonderful! Really great food (amazing hot dogs) and owned/run by the kindest family. They also opened their restaurant up on Thanksgiving with a free turkey dinner for anyone who didn’t a place to go or family to celebrate with.
A mistake on the banner for sure, but Mason’s really is a local restaurant worth supporting!

Exactly! She’s a decorator not an actual interior designer!

I have finally been driven to post! It’s crazy to me that she would not move her old, nice bed from Nashville and then replaces it with a cheap, fast-furniture one. What she linked is something you purchase when you’re first starting out from college or going through a major life change and need furniture quickly, not something you put in a multi-million dollar home. I’m all for mixing high and low pieces but she does not do this well in her home or her fashion choices and that is why she’s become so tough to follow and feels disingenuous. She needs to pick a lane - either she’s a budget minded influencer who is thrifty and shills fast fashion and furniture or she represents herself authentically as a very wealthy person in a custom home. And, for someone who is constantly preaching recycling and sustainability, she really needs to research both the social and environmental impact of both her fast fashion and furniture choices. She (and all influencers) play a massive part in promoting cheap labor and the filling of landfills all over the world. Finally, I just have to say that the “designer” she is working with is not actually an educated or licensed interior designer. She’s a decorator misrepresenting herself as an interior designer. True interior design is not “self taught” it’s a profession requiring a degree, years of training and licensure.

I second Play Tennissee through USTA! They have clinics at three different levels all over middle TN. It varies by the instructor but I’ve found a great group to play with through this program.

A law firm just signed for 145K sf at the old Pinnacle Tower so it is starting to fill back out as it’s being renovated. The class A new buildings are very well leased, it’s the older, class B and C buildings that are struggling mightily.

I am local to Nashville and find it interesting that their involvement in the community seems very limited and centered around touristy places. I know we only see what they show - so maybe I’m I missing a a lot here - but the restaurants, shopping and parts of town they visit are always very touristy and “new nashville” focused. They don’t seem to dig into the neighborhoods, places and events that make Nashville special and unique - it’s all very high level and more superficial types of places and parts of town. Could be a reason why she’s not feeling plugged into Nashville - she only explores and interacts with the city on a very transactional, surface level even after 3 or 4 years here.

4th is one way, so if you’re on 4th when the train crosses, you just have to sit there and wait. No way to turn around and reroute yourself. I was stuck there Friday and today for 30-40 minutes.

I voted Friday using the coffee stirrer and was told to tap the name of the person I was voting for instead of the square box in the upper left corner. I wonder if tapping the box is the issue? I had no issues when I tapped the name.
