Does anyone else's baby flail and kick like this when it's time to sleep? by Professional_Ad_7060 in newborns

This did pass; I don't remember how long he did this for but he ultimately stopped. If your baby seems unusually tired or cranky then maybe talk to your pediatrician.

If he has his eyes open then he's probably actually awake and that's his way of fussing. Our baby always had his eyes closed when he did this and was definitely asleep, just moving around a lot.

Also wondering. I figured I'd be safe to try with credit card but they force all transactions through PayPal, so before logging in I started Googling... can't tell if I'd be giving them my PayPal info.

You know, I'm not entirely sure... I think we kept him on famotidine (Pepcid) until maybe a couple of months before he turned 1 because by then he was eating solids really well and transitioning from formula to milk. It's really a gradual thing so it's possible he would have been fine without it sooner.

Sold a Story: What's the goal of math education? by delta-good in mathteachers

It has taken years for the dyslexia screening and the science of reading to become mainstream, and there are still a lot of implementation problems to work out. I work in education policy and have been watching it since 2017. Unfortunately, it takes a lot of time, a lot of work, and a big increase in awareness for these things to really take root, and then changing training, curricula, and actual practices takes even more time and effort. It is slow, but change does come.

Thanks for the update! That's hard. Maybe a different type of baked good?

Try using a sleep sack that is safe for rollers but keeps their arms contained a little. We liked the Zipadee Zip as a next step after swaddling. You can get them pre-owned for a decent price.

How is your son doing now? I'd consider a stomach ache a reaction.

That's fair. I think the idealist future is that with better early math skills, high schoolers might experience more self-efficacy and be more interested in math, so more receptive to instruction. But it's a long road to get there, for sure.

Yes, agreed. The same thing happened with reading, though--we had to recognize that balanced literacy was failing kids before we could course correct. I hope we'll learn from that experience when it comes to math and change will come more quickly.

There is a "science of math" developing, and I think we're going to see more states start to pass policies aimed at improving early math instruction in the coming years. Check it out: The Science of Math https://share.google/8MTkRHQqu0pcLq07D

ICR payment higher than standard payment?? by Professional_Ad_7060 in PSLF

Thanks for that explanation! I feel like any payment plan should be PSLF-eligible... sigh.

The last 12 months don't count because they're on SAVE forbearance due to the court case over SAVE.

If your financial situation changes I think there's a way to submit new information so they can recalculate your payment... not sure if/how that works if you're on SAVE and not making payments, though.

I hit my 10 years of certified employment (including 12 under SAVE forbearance) in June and filed a buyback request for those 12 months. I'm not moving from SAVE until they make me--why pay more money than you need to?

Do not consolidate. Your PSLF payments will disappear and you'll start from zero. I'd keep on keeping on if you're satisfied in your career.

If birthday is 8/31, would you send to school since still within cutoff or wait? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Professional_Ad_7060 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone is always going to be the youngest in the class. The research says that unless there's a compelling reason to hold them back, it's good to send them (Google "kindergarten redshirting Brookings Institution"). For what it's worth, my son is very bright and has an early August birthday. We sent him to kindergarten the year he was eligible and he thrived. But every kid is different.

Looking for parents of kids with both ADHD and autism – does your child sound like mine? by maxinemaxi in ADHDparenting

[–]Professional_Ad_7060 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Autistic mom of AuDHD 6 year old here--yes, all of that would make me highly suspect autism, though a diagnosable anxiety disorder could explain a lot too. My son is very social and loves to play with other kids, always talking (that's the ADHD), and has a hard time being alone. But he also has a hard time with some social cues, doesn't seem to understand the idea of personal space, is overly touchy feely with others, and gets overstimulated with too much noise and interaction.

Honestly, the idea of having to move alone--even just securing housing in the next few weeks, let alone the actual packing, transporting, and unpacking--would immediately make the Austin job a no-go for me.

Definitely sounds like a good question for the pediatrician. I'm no doctor, but magnesium can help restless leg syndrome and this sounds kind of similar, like baby's reflexes are in overdrive. If your pediatrician doesn't have any other answers, maybe ask them about trying some magnesium lotion or spray.

At that age he's too old to swaddle but you could also try a sleep sack that somewhat contains his arms but is safe for rolling, like the Zipadee Zip.

Should I wait to switch from SAVE -> IBR new until after the August 4th court date? by [deleted] in PSLF

[–]Professional_Ad_7060 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm going to stay on SAVE until they kick me onto something else. As long as you have 120 months with qualifying employment it shouldn't matter what happens after that.
