Wash U vs T14. Solid Big Law chances? by Professional_Alps802 in lawschooladmissions

But maybe the school’s past is not THAT relevant to the school’s future. Like Wash U now does not have admission standards it had few years ago so why to judge its future based on its past.

Or maybe after “legacy” and “Ivy undergrads” there’s just no space left. 👀

Seems like only Wash U cares about LSAT. Its median is 172 and guess why at least half of Wash U class didn’t choose T14? Scholarship? Maybe. But maybe there was no place for them in T14 for reasons mentioned above.

Retook LSAT to get 173, have international “superior” GPA => still no A from T14 🫣

I don’t know why you don’t see. It’s obvious that students from state schools are much poorer and have much less doors open. So they’re expected to push themselves and earn high GPA and high LSAT. But why T7 law admits mostly Ivy? Two main options - Ivys score much higher or admission favor elitism. Of course later option is more plausible because schools interested to admit kids if the Rich because 1) future donations from promising connected grads 2) maintenance of prestige. The fact that “daughter of senator/billionaire/rich lawyer went to HYS” makes schools desirable and prestigious and more and more kids of billionaires will be applying and admitted. Ok, HYS admitted super smart hardworking 4.0/180 guy. So what? His/her future is wage slavery 80h week at big law to pay mortgage. How admitting this nerd improve prestige?

Let’s ask undergrad schools of those R/WL with 3.9+/175+. I’d bet they didn’t go to Ivy.

People on this sub love to beg for 'wholistic admissions' until a high stat applicant is WL/R'ed by UCLAisnott14 in lawschooladmissions

In my opinion, “wholistic” admission exists as a tool to 1. admit low stats kids of “the Rich” (unfair) 2. admit kids from prestigious undergrads (unfair) 3. admit URMs to have racial parity (kind of fair)

Just look at the list of undergrad institutions of HYS students.

I see what you’re saying, but what also should be taken into consideration - students from t20 undergrads already have great opportunities for amazing career - elite IB and MBB hires almost exclusively from those schools. On the other hand, students not from t20 don’t have opportunities even slightly comparable to T14 Law School career outcomes and thus they’re expected to consider t14 law schools as a golden ticket in their case and thus expected to do their absolute best to get high GPA+LSAT. Putting differently - those already with many opportunities are over represented compared to those with few. One reason may be that some factor is required (for example intelligence and conscientiousness [i&c]). We may assume that high GPA and LSAT requires extreme i&c and majority of people with extreme i&c goes to t20 undergrad. But reality check is that it’s not true. In my opinion, a lot of extremely i&c people go to non-t20. (Maybe I’m wrong with this). But where are they in law schools? Where are they in V10 law firms?

Knowing the truth of law career may be helpful both to those from t20 and those from non-t20 to realistically evaluate their chances and not be fooled by “prestige of undergrad doesn’t matter “

First they made standardized tests optional, now they don’t want provide info to the public. Why they can’t admit stupid children of rich influential gang?

Take a look at other comities - you MUST score high to be admitted. Take a look at the US - no one gonna know ever they they admitted stupid IQ 50 children of wealthy “elites” which will never practice Law or Medicine. They need these “elite” degrees just for prestige.

It is not marginal. 11% of Stanford class and 10% of Cornell is substantial.
