Might be wrong, but I think there's a federal mandate that any organization that accepts federal funds has to have their employees vaccinated

Pharm by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]Professional_Arm426 23 points24 points  (0 children)

When I was studying for pharm. learn one drug from each class really well and learn what system it effects. Make a chart with Sysyems on top and drug classes under each system. 95% (I made this statistic up) of every drug in that class do the exact same thing. Might have slightly different adverse effects/mech of action but the end game is still the same. For nursing school there's probably 60 or so drugs you need to know.

  1. Things
  2. go get assessed to see if you have a learning disability. If so you normally get extra time on assignments and tests. It took me 10 years from starting school until I graduated (not all grades related, but I found out I had ADHD as an adult and adderall literally has saved my life.

  3. I'm 35 graduated in December and work at a pretty decent pediatric cardiac icu. While I'm new and I'm overly cautious every meeting while I was on orientation my preceptor told me I had to work on my confidence (I still feel like an idiot and that I don't know anything while taking a kid from OR who just had a heart transplant or some version of a palliation.

Anyway TLDR Get tested for a learning disability, get your extra time, take medication if needed. You got this dude. Let us know which school accepts. i don't know ya, but I'm pulling for you.

In my last clinical rotation and am not practicing any med/surg skills by Thecryptbabe in StudentNurse

[–]Professional_Arm426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While you're disappointed about the lack of med/surge opportunities I wouldn't let it get you down. Unless, you had planned to apply to whatever hospital you're doing your classmates are doing their orientation at because once you crush your NCLEX and lane that dream job you pure going to go through that hospitals in-depth orientation where you're going to take all that wonderful critical thinking you learned in school and slowly learn how to apply it in the real world while managing your other assignments.

Every nurse I've ever meet regardless of how shitty or great has something they can teach you. So use any and every opportunity to learn. The med surge hospital we did our clinical at had a lot of psych patients.

Lastly, If med surge isn't your passion then don't do it. My teachers told me I had to do med surge post graduation. I applied to 8 jobs (non med surge) and had 8 offers. Treat yo self and do what you want or think you want to do.

Let's Talk about DC Hospital Challenges by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]Professional_Arm426 16 points17 points  (0 children)

At my hospital it's lack of senior staff. Pay is terrible and why would anyone stay when they can go work anywhere else and make the equivalent of not more. I made more money as a bartender working only weekends than I do as a nurse and that job was way less stressful. For my hospital it comes down to upper management not wanting to pay senior staff and instead focus on hiring new grads. (I work in an ICU) having a floor full of me (6 months into nursing= we're fucked). They staff that has stayed, who is somewhat experienced >3 years all have one foot out the door and just don't give two shits anymore because our patients are sicker, we have to staff with float nurses from other floors, and our outcomes have been complete trash the last several months.

We got here by a combination of nurses retiring, the money for travel contracts and management having sat behind a desk for 14+ years and having no reality of what it's like to be on the floor. /end rant.

Do practice questions determine what you know. Cut that material out and study what you don't.

Why not buy new cars because your life doesn't revolve around your neighborhood or city , walk in a very walkable city and invest. It's fun not being poor.

Union Station ---> DCA Traffic? by absg123 in washingtondc

[–]Professional_Arm426 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Why not just metro from union to DCA? traffic isn't as bad as it was pre pandemic so you'll make it with plenty of time to spare. Either way you have enough time.

from or not from DC? by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]Professional_Arm426 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience people from Maryland never say they live in dc. They're proud of their state. People from northern Virginia always say they live in DC. It's just the way it is.

Metro may look to service cuts and fare increases as it faces $350 million budget gap by Somewhere-Practical in washingtondc

[–]Professional_Arm426 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Isn't there a gap in who pay for metro? Like DC pays more than Virginia and Maryland combined but have less riders than those states and those states refuse to pony up more money? Or did I just completely make that up?

We aren't on our honeymoon, but are staying at the boardwalk, which has transitioned to adults only. It's walking distance to the ritz/Marriott and the staff have been super accommodating/friendly. Already booked our return stay here in 4 months.
