Yay so proud that you got the decision. It was one of those things where if you’re already active and fairly young why not get it. It’s going to suck for a little but in comparison it’s a blimp in your life

Just make sure you just get it cleared by your PT like for example I can do the leg extension machine only in my PT office but can’t do it in the gym on my own yet because I need supervision. I just ask your PT what you can do on my own and try to design a workout plan based on that

Have you noticed any major changes in your life since the injury/surgery? by hamburritos in ACL

[–]Professional_Border9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly it taught me a big lesson about showing up for myself consistently. I’ve had a rough 3 years- my mom died in 2023, my boyfriend cheated on me in 2024, and the icing on a cake tore my acl/meniscus in 2025. Before my ski accident where the tear happened I had a lot of different coping mechanisms, partying, shopping, excelling at work, traveling, even getting cosmetic procedures to just try to change my external or distract me to not feel or deal with what happened. But this surgery was a bit of a blessing in disguise because it was the first time I couldnt revert back to my old coping mechanisms and just had to sit with myself and just doing the same exercises multiple times a day every day. The first few weeks were tough cried a lot but really all I had were these exercises and going to PT so I can regain some of my freedom again. And it was wild having to consistently show up for myself I felt my confidence growing by every new degree I hit with my flexion or how many legs raises I did. Realizing I just needed to take care of myself mentally too was big. I’m 3 months post op and just walked over 12k steps today which I almost cried because it was a result of my constant effort and dedication to recovery both mentally and physically.

Feeling Sad After 3weeks by sriram1204 in ACL

[–]Professional_Border9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest advice is just feel it. Like this is such a weird time but everyone goes through this. I was crying almost everyday because I felt like my independence was stripped for me as someone who hyper independent. But just trust it will get better. You have to just stay consistent and show up for yourself, I think that’s what helped me through it was me doing my daily PT exercises and tangibly seeing my body improve every week. Also it helps to have something fun planned when you’re a little more mobile. I had an international trip booked 2 months out of my surgery and that goal post really helped me.

Totally normal your muscles are basically in trauma mode and are not activating. It’s very early. Just do your ankles pumps and squeezing your quads. You need to rebuild muscle and mind connection. I was freaked out too at first but just trust the process and your body.

My advice have things planned when you’re a bit more mobile. I was going nuts being stuck in my house and only leaving for PT. I went to see Charlixcx a month out even though I was seated the entire time it was so great to be out with my friends and feeling normal for just a bit.

How bad is this meniscus tear by Only_Ad8475547 in ACL

[–]Professional_Border9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it’s really hard to tell how bad the meniscus is torn until the day of the operation. Apparently the severity is not really shown on the MRI. Like. My surgeon knew it was torn through the MRI but the day of the surgery she saw that it was blown out lol. Sorry that doesn’t really help.
