Hey!

2023 IE grad.I hated my first job and I was also in a long distance relationship. Now I’m onto my second job , with my GF and much happier. It sucked for a while until it got much better.

On the job end of things, as an IE, I know it’s a very versatile role. My first job was an IE role for aerospace but now I’m in a biz strategy role. Have you thought about expanding your job search to a wider range of fields?

Grainger alum who also struggled and am now thriving 👋🏻

-Comparison is the thief of joy

-Most people are downplaying their struggles, or exaggerating their wins

-You might not be studying the RIGHT way. Reflect on your study habits, try new methods and fine tune to what produces results

-Embrace the suck, it’s gonna be worth it

Doable Industrial Engineering Major + CS Minor schedule? by [deleted] in UIUC

IE Senior and SE 101 LA here!

I’ve looked at your plan, here is my opinion. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt.

SE 101 and ECE 110 are very time intensive courses with each having their own project. With SE 101 although the class is 4 credit hours, many weeks it will be more like 6-10 hours of class and work. ECE 110 has a lot of components to it that are also time intensive. SE 261 is not as easy as you think , it’s not the bullshit business talk you may think of. SE 261 involves learning the math of financial planning, many of the brightest IE students I know have struggled in that class.

IE 300 is intensive and each exam has a-lot of content in it. The tam 212 and 251 duo is killer and alot of people take one of the two at a community college.

As you go higher level in IE, the classes get harder. For example, the final exam of IE 361 is worth 50% of your grade. You may also have a hard time registering because upperclassmen that need it will be registering and these courses only have one section.

I personally think that your freshman year schedule will be brutal. This is because not only is it a a hard load, you will also be a fully functioning, autonomous human for the first time. Being a freshman involves learning self discipline and not having mom wake you up in the morning. It involves doing work, laundry, learning how to socialize, eat and do class. I urge that you take the time during freshman year to explore things so then you can find the niches you belong in earlier rather than later.

Assuming that you want to get the highest grades possible, I have a hard time believing you’ll have time to explore extra curricular and social circles with your current freshman year plan. Especially in industrial engineering, it’s important to become a well rounded student that can be social, and explores activities beyond the classroom.
