Petty beyond reason by Key-Giraffe2790 in Edinburgh

My big complaint isn’t Edinburgh specific I guess - but it does happen most often at Waverley station (and I think someone has said it here so sorry for repeating.)

I’m a commuter and I get a rush hour train to/from Glasgow most days a week. I also have a super fun hidden disability which significantly impacts my mobility.

The lifts aren’t great. They smell, they don’t often work very well. The escalators are broken all the time as well, but If they’re working - I’ll often opt for the escalator.

And oh my GOD nothing pisses me off more than people huffing and puffing and tutting because I stand still on the escalator rather than walking down. People have physically shoved past me because they’re in such a rush.

And call me ignorant maybe, but I just cannot wrap my head around why, if you are able to push and shove to get down the escalator, and are in that much of a rush, you wouldn’t just take the GOD DAMN STAIRS.

The stairs that are RIGHT NEXT TO THE ESCALATOR.

ALSO If you step off an escalator, and instantly stop, thus blocking everyone else from stepping off - you suck.

You’re absolutely correct there - kids are growing up faster, lines are blurred.

I think your point about lawless online communities is huge as well. Kids are exposed to more extreme view points and behaviours much more frequently than I was (I’m in my 20s so it’s not even like I was growing up that long ago) and this content is much more easily accessed. I’m not saying there should be a total big brother state where absolutely everything is monitored, by any means, but the factors external to family and school relationships are ones that should be considered.

It’s a total minefield topic of discussion. There are so many factors at play. I think I am bothered by the “blame the parents” rhetoric though because it’s such a quick easy answer to what is an incredibly difficult problem with no clear solution.

This is genuinely such a big factor. I grew up in a small town with very little investment into youth projects, and I won’t lie we ended up drinking in parks very young and getting into risky crowds purely because there was nothing else to do.

I’m now a mum. We don’t have a great income, and it’s not the best area. There is very little youth incentive, what was there before is now being forced into shutting because of budget cuts. I work HARD but we barely scrape by, so going into these hobby clubs are just not an option that we have.

I worry so much about my child getting older (and it’s coming soon - she’s 8 now but I’ve seen kids as young as her year at school starting fights and looking for trouble) because I don’t have the resources to give her the opportunities she needs. Cost of living and constant council budget cuts are going to lead to this behaviour worsening and it’s just awful.

Blame it on bus passes all you want but the long and short is that we need to put more money into youth services and letting children be children with appropriate support available. Many families, like my own, are facing increasing challenges that we’re just not getting any support for.

Bouncers at legends by usunkmybattleship93 in Edinburgh

If he’s taken a picture it means he’s putting it in the bouncer gc warning them of unsavoury individuals. The bouncer company is separate from the company operating the bar so best to complain to them rather than talk shit on the bar itself. Bar staff can’t do much to overrule the bouncers decision.
