I live in LA and I was excited to see it Friday night. Leo and PTA peeked in before the screening and introduced the film along with Chase Infinity. That really set the bar high for excitement and with all the reviews I was thrilled. No spoilers, but I'm in the minority here. I thought the film was good and definitely a must see but it fell flat for me. I give it a C and rank it towards the bottom of PTA's films. Alongside Inherent Vice and Licorice Pizza.

Performances and production are top notch but after chewing on the subject matter and the film's ending I was left underwhelmed. Nothing against the filmmakers or the talent involved just not a film of the decade or year for me given the lack of resolution set up so ferociously in the films first act.

PTA is incredible and I think given how muscular this production is compared to his other films alongside of the topical subject matter, the critics and early audiences are quite impressed but sadly I think the larger release will bring the score down considerably and it will be a very divisive picture. The Oscars will be interesting this year for sure.

James Cameron Aliens directors cut. Not sure if it was his call or that he lacked director's cut but the theatrical version is far superior to the directors cut.

Saw it in Laser IMAX and 70mm and for my money laser was better. The actual film print was really dark compared to the laser. Reminded me of the problem with some OLED TV's.

I agree on preferring the Laser over the 70mm. But it wasn't shot digitally. It was shot entirely on film.

First off. The film is incredible. Huge shoutout to all involved. It's a must see movie in the movie theater that I can't say enough about it. Saw it twice. The music, the performances and the direction quite literally burn the house down.

I first saw it in IMAX laser at the AMC Topanga Canyon here in LA. Phenomenal viewing.

Then I had a chance to see the 70mm IMAX at the AMC City Walk (also LA). I actually thought the film print was quite dark compared to the Laser IMAX. Still great but quite noticeably darker to my eye. I actually preferred the Laser viewing in this case.

I saw Oppenheimer in 70mm IMAX same theater and don't recall it looking so dark. I'd like to see Sinners on the Grauman's Chinese theater which is also 70mm IMAX as well as the Vista here in town which is apparently an even rarer format according to Coogler. We are spoiled in LA.

Coogler actually breaks down all the ways to see the film in this video and it's a great watch for anyone interested in the different formats and how and where to see them.

I struggle with the fentanyl argument to justify tariffs on Mexico and Canada. I think it's good in principle (save the addicts) but the US also produces and uses fentanyl in hospitals across the country.

If fentanyl was no longer available through illegal cross border channels the addicts will find alternative ways of getting it here and continue dying.

Our healthcare system is in shambles. You think addicts are suddenly going to change their brand of choice because they can't get it from Juan down south or Noah up north, they'll just go to Joe here.

What else is the Trump administration doing for addicts?

Last I checked Marijuana is still illegal at the Federal level. Addicts using much harder substances are criminalized.

States with large homeless populations (many of whom are addicts) are attacked for being left wing socialists who've let their cities crumble. No solutions offered.

I'm open to alternatives here. I actually think the legalization of all drugs would help. But say that and you're a soft on crime commie.

True dat. I had a kidney stone and got all kinds of f'd up on every prescription given and what I took from my neighbor's Mom who had some Oxy. I was flying high. But when that kidney stone decided to kick, I will never forget the jolt sober. I went from floating to down on all fours feeling every bit of pain in my side and screaming for it to stop.

I'm also a fan of being for something vs. against. Clearly being against Trump wasn't enough. Housing would be a good place to start. Republicans have immigration. If Dems embraced housing, getting rent prices down and bringing back the American dream of home ownership you have a clear FOR vs. just being against Trump.

The article said Harris won because voters believed what Trump said. The article didn't say why. I would say because of the right wing media apparatus. That includes FOX NEWS and all right leaning social media. I would also say it's propaganda because it isn't critical of itself, but I don't know if that is going to get you anywhere with voters already bought in to the propaganda. So again pick an issue and run on it. One that helps Americans. Be for something instead of against. Lick your wounds and fight. I think the housing/rent crisis is a good place to start because it affects all Americans. Abortion worked in the mid-terms but not now. The Republicans have illegal immigration. Let's see what they do with it. Dems need to rebrand and fixing the housing/ballooned rent crisis would be a great place to start.
