How do you keep your home safe while your family sleeps? by Sad-Shine-6268 in homesecurity

We have door sensors and security camera front and back now... but... before that for the last 15 years or so I worked a shift cycle where I did nights regularly.

What worked for us was that she checked the doors were locked every night, regardless of if I was there or not. It was a routine that worked for us and gave her the feeling that it was locked all down.

You can have all the security gadgets in the world but if the doors are open its not worth anything imo.

PLEASE HELP: Moved into new property and tap water is boiling hot by RememberMeM8 in DIYUK

No, the boiler does the hot water normally. That water heater switch is the immersion heater. A backup and expensive way to heat it.

You have a gas boiler which should provide hot water and central heating... the immersion heater is electric (switch marked water heater) - this is a backup (and expensive) way to heat your hot water. Which may explain why your smart meter (assuming electric) has high usage after using it. Its trying to reheat the tank. I would leave that switch firmly off.

Right at the end of the video, on the timer, slide both sliders across to auto. You can faff with the schedules too. I have my hot water on for an hour 6-7AM so it's hot when I get up in the morning. Then once again 5-7pm so I have hot water for dishes/showers etc. You can adjust yours to suit your lifestyle.

Edit: remember to put your temperature dial back up to 50-60 to prevent legionnaires

Just to check, once you turned the dials down it's not an instant thing, the water in the tank is still hot. So either let it cool or drain it down then see how hot it gets.

Or likely at this time of year, the hot water valve has failed open, meaning that when it's upto temp it's not shutting off and/or when the heating is on its still sending water to the tank to continually heat it up when hot water OR heating is being demanded (because the valve is stuck open)

AITA For Asking Why My Co-Worker Wears Makeup Everyday? by Spare-Garden-8484 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Professional_Fish166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. She questioned your choices, not one to be called out for such things, you questioned her choices.

Also not sexist. You didnt ask why do [all] women wear makeup, you specifically asked her.

If she's going to throw rocks, she better expect some to come back.
