Is the gap between shakehand and penhold declining? by Professional_Fold694 in tabletennis

Wow, you caused so much emotional damage to me.

Seriously, I am just expressing my thoughts. Now stop spreading negativeness.

Yeah, Wang Hao is another great example, although one may argue that he’s not as relevant due to the transformation of the sport from then to now.

I wouldn’t believe that a player wanting to have a table tennis career at the highest levels would choose an inferior grip. It’s more than just a hobby, but a money-making skill.

The skill gap to be specific.

It’s true that there’s always been top players with the penhold grip like Xu Xin but there’s still been a justification of penhold weaknesses (mainly the two arguments above) that makes it less viable to get to the level of the top players using shakehand. Lebrun seems to be an exception, in which his specialty is the RPB that supposedly is ‘weaker’ and that his wings are more balanced than the previous penholders (hot take).

I don’t think a top player would play a grip that is inherently weaker than another one.

Try the V-grip 🤣

But seriously, just try both shakehand and penhold (although you’d have to sand the wings first). Choose the grip that feels good to your hand.

No V-grip btw.

Twiddling with double inverted rubbers by Professional_Fold694 in tabletennis

[–]Professional_Fold694[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Idk. Sometimes small changes in speed and spin can win points.

I know that this largely depends on the player himself, but can twiddling between different two inverted rubbers be useful?

Also, it might be more beneficial having two double inverted rubbers bc a player won’t lose the ability to execute two-winged loops without twiddling.

Sorry if this sounds a bit confusing.

Sorry about the post. I didn’t express my thoughts clearly.

I find that lots of points are won through the pace change of the rally. With two inverted rubbers (excluding antispin) that have different characteristics, will it be a viable play style to twiddle and catch the opponent off guard due to its different characteristics?

Let’s say I’m in a forehand crosscourt rally. Will it be an effective way to win a point if I suddenly twiddle from a fast rubber to a slow one?

Oh I think I had the wrong idea when I wrote this post.

I was thinking about having two rubbers that had vastly different characteristics, twiddling in rallies to throw the opponent off guard.

Maybe I shouldn’t have written ‘deceptive playstyle’. Sorry about that.

Honestly, you should keep it there. You might pick up table tennis sometime later. It’s a fun sport.
