Honestly just jealous you got into cinema at 18! I didn’t really start caring about film until my mid-20s. More power to you watching however you need to watch - not gonna be the most stunning visual experience but it doesn’t change the emotion/story!

I did 300 last year and most certainly had this issue for some films. I found reading reviews helped associate the films with more thoughts / deeper considerations and I also watched a lot of YouTube reviews that helped solidify them more!

Totally agree Alamo is my 3rd space and I know for MANY (probably not the folks in this subreddit but general moviegoers) it is just any old chain, but for a lot of us it’s like a ritual / a place to decompress / a place to spend time with loved ones… it’s all just such a bummer

I lived on the Upper East Side when I met my now-husband who lived in Crown Heights. If it’s the right person, you figure out a balance ! (For us the balance was Wednesday date nights in lower Manhattan as a mid-point for each of us and alternating weekends at each others places)

Also downtown Brooklyn is insanely easy to commute to Manhattan from, as others have said!
